ZENSHU, the brand-new original anime by studio MAPPA was long announced to be available on Crunchyroll when it aired on Sunday, January 5, and it was also revealed that the English dub of the series would be released on the same day. The English dub cast list features a number of familiar names and veteran voice actors. The English dub being released at the same time as the original is quite rare, so this will be a treat for English-speaking fans who were looking forward to watching the series.

ZENSHU follows a young woman named Natsuko Hirose, who becomes an animator immediately after high school, and with her immense talent, becomes a director in no time. She enjoys an overwhelming level of success with her first director credit, and as a result, she is heralded a genius animator. Her next project is a romantic comedy about finding one’s first love, but unfortunately, Natsuko has never had that experience and struggles to create the storyboards needed for the project, bringing production to a standstill. The series is an original animation produced by MAPPA, with Mitsue Yamazaki (director, Monthly Girls’ Nozaki-kun), with scripts by Kimiko Ueno (Delicious in Dungeon), adaptations of Yoshiteru Tsujino’s original character designs by Kiyoko Ishikawa (Sarazanmai) and music by Yukari Hashimoto (A Sign of Affection). ZENSHU has garnered a lot of attention since it was initially released because it is produced by MAPPA, the animation production studio famous for titles like Yuri!!! on Ice, JUJUTSU KAISEN, Attack on Titan: The Final Season, CHAINSAW MAN, Dorohedoro and the upcoming Lazarus. With those and several more acclaimed titles produced by staff at MAPPA, the production studio has risen to prominence over the latter parts of the 2010s and the early 2020s.
