Founded in 2019, AEW has shown itself to be a formidable opponent against the juggernaut that is WWE. However, when it comes to the video game industry, AEW has a long way to go, as the company has barely scratched the surface of what is possible for its brand.

Despite the lackluster game output compared to the WWE, AEW may now have the perfect moment to announce another Fight Forever entry. Now that Kenny Omega is back in the ring, AEW has ample reason to return to gaming, and it could be just what the company needs to bring the brand to even greater heights. While there has yet to be a new AEW game confirmed, a fresh entry now feels more possible than ever.

Kenny Omega has been out of the wrestling world for a long time. After stepping away in December 2023 due to a battle with diverticulitis, it was unclear when he would be ready to return, if at all. Thankfully, wrestling fans recently got an answer to that question on January 5, as he made his much-anticipated in-ring return at Wrestle Dynasty, having an incredible match with NJPW star Gabe Kidd. The return of one of AEW’s biggest stars would be a big enough reason to continue the AEW Fight Forever series, but that isn’t the only reason why Kenny Omega’s comeback is important.

Kenny Omega Isn’t Just a Wrestler, He’s a Gamer

In addition to his skill in the ring, Kenny Omega is an avid lover of video games. This love of gaming led him to play a major role in AEW Fight Forever‘s development, as he helped oversee the production. Now that he’s back in action, it would only make sense for him to return to such an important consulting role. While AEW FIght Forever was a mixed bag, it still marked the start of what AEW could accomplish in the video game realm. There will need to be some major improvements made for a hypothetical sequel, but it’s possible for an AEW game to be a truly great experience on par with the acclaimed in-ring bouts the company puts on.

Now that Kenny Omega is back in the ring, AEW has ample reason to return to gaming, and it could be just what the company needs to bring the brand to even greater heights.

Kenny Omega holds such a strong love for video games that his Wrestle Dynasty return featured a brand-new song made by Final Fantasy 14 and FF16 composer Masayoshi Soken. With so much passion for gaming, it’s likely that he would want to continue AEW’s growth in the industry, especially when it has barely scratched the surface.

At NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 2023, Kenny Omega came out with a Sephiroth-themed entrance, further showcasing his love for Final Fantasy. His V-Trigger and One-Winged Angel moves are also homages to games.

A New AEW Could Make the Brand a More Worthy Competitor

Last year, the WWE had success with WWE 2K24. Not only was the game received well by many critics and players, but it was even nominated for Best Sports/Racing Game at The Game Awards. If AEW is able to find the right developer to bring a proper adaptation to life, then the company could have the special ingredient that it needs to be an even better competitor to the WWE, even giving its games an alternative to look out for. Going up against the likes of the WWE is no easy feat, but it would be exciting to see both companies offer strong sports titles that offer different experiences, just like their television programs do.

As of now, there has yet to be any official confirmation that another AEW game is in development. However, another Fight Forever installment now feels more viable than ever. Kenny Omega’s return marks a thrilling comeback for the wrestler, and it will be intriguing to see if his return reignites the company’s interest in more video game projects.
