Summary
- Usopp is considered the weakest Straw Hat in One Piece but is an integral part of the crew.
- Despite being physically weak, Usopp constantly battles through injuries, showing mental toughness.
- Usopp faces foes much stronger than himself, displaying bravery and resolve in dangerous situations.
In One Piece, the sniper of the Straw Hat Crew, Usopp, is consistently underestimated by fans. At his core, despite being fairly weak and cowardly, Usopp is an incredibly brave and kind individual who will always stick by his friends, no matter how dangerous a situation gets. Through his actions and sniping ability, Usopp has earned his position on One Piece’s Straw Hat Crew and has proven himself to be a powerful ally to Luffy, despite lacking physical strength.
However, is it truly fair to say that Usopp is an absolute weakling? Usopp has survived some incredible circumstances, even early on in his lifetime as a pirate, that would most likely send the average person running back home. From surviving multiple bone-crushing attacks to surviving on one of the deadliest islands in One Piece for two years, fans need to stop underestimating Usopp.

Usopp Is Arguably The Weakest Straw Hat In One Piece
Despite This He Is An Integral And Helpful Part Of The Crew
As far as the Straw Hat Crew members are concerned, Usopp is the closest to a regular person. Lacking any sort of Devil Fruit ability, or incredible strength, Usopp may be the absolute physically weakest member of the crew. Plus, his penchant for running away and making excuses to get him out of conflict has branded Usopp as both a coward and useless in a fight. Despite this, Usopp has proven himself time and time again, doing things like heroically saving Robin during One Piece’s Enies Lobby Arc or taking out Sugar on Dressrosa.
There comes a time when a man has to stand and fight! This is the time when his friend’s dreams are laughed at. – Usopp
However, even outside of this, Usopp has suffered inhuman amounts of physical damage, all while being a normal human, with no absurd levels of strength. For example, Usopp has had his skull shattered on Alabasta, has been blown up on Thriller Bark, and was head-butted by Ulti during One Piece’s Wano Arc. For characters like Zoro, Luffy, or Franky, this wouldn’t be much of a problem since their bodies are extremely tough. However, being closer to a regular human, these injuries are more than enough to permanently take someone out of commission.
Ussop Withstands Brutal Attacks For An Average Person
Despite Being Weak Usopp Always Gets Up After Being Hit
- Usopp Has Continued Fighting After Extreme Injuries
- He Constantly Battles Without An Overwheming Amount Of Power
Despite the overwhelming amount of injuries he has suffered and his lack of durability to withstand these attacks, Usopp still continues to fight and push through these moments. Due to this fact, Usopp is actually far tougher than most people give him credit for. No matter how scared he is, Usopp continues to fight alongside the Straw Hat Crew, continually getting up and fighting after injuries that would take most others down.

In many ways, Usopp’s cowardice is a bit warranted considering how much weaker he is than his crew mates. While Luffy can waltz into a fight without worry, due to his strong Haki and Devil Fruit, Usopp is a relatively normal individual who is constantly put onto a battlefield with massively powerful pirates and creatures, outside of his Observation Haki. More often than not, Usopp is in way over his head, and although his first instinct is to run, no matter what, Usopp is there to help his crew.
Usopp Chooses To Fight On The Same Battlefield As Legendary Pirates
In Many Ways Usopp Is Brave For Facing Foes Much Stronger Than Himself
A great example of this is when Usopp, as the Sniper King, sneaks onto the train to Enies Lobby, despite being surrounded by extremely strong Marines. However, just as he physically withstands many bone-shattering attacks, Usopp also has a massive level of mental toughness that pushes him to fight on the same battlefield as characters like Luffy and Kaido. Although it’s difficult, imagining the events of Wano and Egghead from Usopp’s perspective, is enough to justify his regular reactions to the situations he finds himself in.
I am the great Captain Usopp – Usopp
In the end, although the Straw Hat sniper, Usopp, is mainly a comedic character, meant to make the audience laugh in tense situations, he’s actually far tougher than most fans give him credit for, both physically and mentally. Physically, Usopp is able to withstand attacks that proportionally deal more damage to him than any other Straw Hat, except for Luffy and maybe Zoro. Additionally, mentally, although he is a bit of a coward, Usopp always enters the most dangerous situations in order to help the Straw Hats. Though he may be the weakest in One Piece’s Straw Hat Crew, Usopp’s resolve helps him keep up with Luffy and the other powerful members.
