Reactivate Gameplay Leaks After Project Cancellation

Reactivate Gameplay Leaks After Project Cancellation

Summary

  • Yesterday, Splash Damage announced that it was halting development on Transformers: Reactivate.
  • Now that the project has been cancelled, gameplay leaks from a 2020 build have started resurfacing.
  • To make matters worse, it seems that a lot of fans are into what Reactivate was trying to do.

Leaked gameplay footage from Splash Damage’s Transformers: Reactivate has resurfaced online following yesterday’s surprise announcement that the game had been cancelled.

As Transformers fans begging Activision to make the Xbox 360 games available to download are well aware of, it’s been a long time since we’ve had a new game in the series. While Transformers used to have a prolific and surprisingly strong lineup of gaming adaptations (shout-out to War for Cybertron), that hasn’t been the case for a long while.

That long wait sadly looks like it’s going to continue for quite some time, as the most recently announced game in the franchise, Transformers: Reactivate, was suddenly and sadly cancelled yesterday by Splash Damage. Now that the project has officially been shut-down, gameplay leaks have started resurfacing and showing what the game would have been all about.

Splash Damage never officially showed off any gameplay footage for Transformers: Reactivate (and was surprisingly quiet about the project as a whole, in fact), but that didn’t stop leaks from showcasing what appears to be beta footage. The leaks actually appear to have taken place a few months ago, but now that the game has been cancelled, they’re making the rounds again.

Over on Twitter, DpzLuna shared a clip of gameplay from Transformers: Reactivate that shows Bumblebee driving around a war-torn city and engaging in third-person shooter combat with various enemies while defending a node of some kind. The footage shows a version of the game that was clearly still in development, but does get across what Reactivate was trying to do.

While most of the footage focuses on showing Bumblebee exploring environments and swapping between his car and shooting forms, we do get a very brief glimpse of an unfinished cutscene towards the end of the clip. There are more gameplay leaks out there for Reactivate, with some of them dating back as far as 2020.

To make the whole cancellation even more painful, it seems that a lot of Transformers fans are on board with what’s been shown of Reactivate, with many lamenting the shutdown and wondering why it was dropped. We may never know for certain, but at least we’ve been shown a glimpse of what the final game might have looked like.
