Amazon MGM Studios announced last year it was moving forward with a Mass Effect television series, giving Fast and Furious 9 writer Daniel Casey the reins on the adaptation. The show is likely only in pre-production, so there is scarcely little information out there about it, but FemShep voice actor Jennifer Hale has already signalled her interest in getting involved in some capacity, in an interview with Eurogamer.
“You will always get a yes vote from me on Shepard coming back in any form,” Hale said. “That was such a gift, and it’s a gift I will always be extremely joyful to receive.”
Which Shepard?
Shepard featuring in the show is a reasonable assumption, given how intertwined the character is with the events of the game series. However, we don’t know if we’re getting the male or female version of Shepard in the upcoming show. That doesn’t phase Hale, however, who just wants to be involved in any capacity.
“The only thing I must say about that TV series is I want to play! Any capacity, I will be there with bells on,” she explained. “I think they’d be really smart to pull in as much of the original cast into the show in cameos and easter eggs and recurring and regular [roles] as possible. I think that would be an absolutely genius move.”
If Amazon were to take Hale’s advice, it would be reminiscent of Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson’s respective appearances in The Last of Us, a nod to their portrayal of Joel and Ellie in the video game series.
“The voice acting community are some of the most brilliant performers I’ve ever met… they’re the most gifted, hard-working, adept, skilled people I’ve ever met in my life in the acting field. So I’m ready for the smart production company that stops overlooking that gold mine. I fully volunteer to be on the show,” Hale offered.
As for the game series, BioWare has recently begun work on Mass Effect 5 following the release of Dragon Age: The Veilguard. We don’t know a whole lot about it yet, except that it probably features Liara T’Soni.
