- Kingdom Hearts 4 introduces the “Lost Master Arc,” beginning the end of the saga.
- Fans speculate Star Wars or Marvel worlds may be included in Kingdom Hearts 4.
- Tetsuya Nomura hints at resolving the Lost Masters’ fate teased at the end of Kingdom Hearts 3.
Kingdom Hearts co-creator Tetsuya Nomura just hinted at an update for Kingdom Hearts 4. The next chapter in the sprawling Kingdom Hearts saga was officially announced back in 2022 with an appropriately cryptic trailer of main protagonist Sora waking up in a mysterious, Shibuya-inspired city known as Quadratum. Kingdom Hearts 4 will mark the beginning of a new storyline called the “Lost Master Arc,” which has since been described as the “beginning of the end” for the Kingdom Hearts saga.
Not much else has been revealed about Kingdom Hearts 4 yet, as Square Enix has remained relatively silent about the game after its initial trailer. This has left fans to study the existing Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer for clues about the story and what new Disney worlds could be introduced during Sora’s latest journey. Some eagle-eyed gamers have even spotted clues pointing to Star Wars or Marvel worlds being included in Kingdom Hearts 4, thus spreading the series’ Disney crossover beyond the studio’s beloved animated offerings.

Kingdom Hearts 4 Should Take One Page from Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth’s Combat Book
When Kingdom Hearts 4 eventually comes out, it would be nice to see it shake up the series’ combat, and watching FF7 Rebirth is one way to do that.
Meanwhile, January 9, 2025 marks the 15th anniversary of another chapter in the Kingdom Hearts series, the 2010 PSP prequel Birth By Sleep. Series director Tetsuya Nomura took to social media to celebrate the milestone with a lengthy message detailing how Birth By Sleep makes use of the series’ recurring theme of crossroads, or points of divergence where important moments happen. Nomura then mentions how this theme could play into the “Lost Master Arc” that will begin in Kingdom Hearts 4, though he quickly notes that this is a “story for another time.”
Tetsuya Nomura Hints At Kingdom Hearts 4
More specifically, Nomura described how the Lost Masters gather at their own crossroads in one of the final scenes of Kingdom Hearts 3, where it is revealed that former Organization 13 member Xigbar is actually Luxu, an ancient Keyblade wielder who has been observing events from the shadows throughout the rest of the Kingdom Hearts series. Nomura cryptically hinted that the Lost Masters who meet up with Luxu during this scene must lose something to gain something, a nod to the crossroad myth from American folklore that has been referenced many times before.
Judging from Nomura’s latest comments, the question of what the Lost Masters lost and gained during their fateful reunion with Luxu could be answered in Kingdom Hearts 4. Much of the next Kingdom Hearts game is still shrouded in mystery, but the fact that Nomura is bringing it up now could be a sign that more information is coming soon, maybe in the form of another action-packed Kingdom Hearts 4 trailer.
