There are many unlockable features that you can discover in Path of Exile 2. One feature is the salvage bench, which lets you salvage old gear that you no longer need. Rather than just destroying it though, you’ll get a bit of material in return.

In this guide, we are going to take a look at how to unlock and use the salvage bench in Path of Exile 2. This will cover the short quest you’ll need to complete in order to access the bench, as well as what exactly can be salvaged there (because not everything can be!).
How To Unlock The Salvage Bench
To unlock the salvage bench, you’ll need to complete the quest Finding the Forge. This requires you to find Renly’s Tools within Ogham Village.
If you make it to Ogham Village and don’t have this quest, just head back to the Clearfell Encampment and speak with Renly.
As you know, maps in Path of Exile 2 are different between instances, so we can’t directly guide you to the tools. Instead, you’ll need to run around until you find the tools. Thankfully, there is a checkpoint right outside the ‘entrance’ to Renly’s Workshop.
Inside, you’ll see the tools patiently waiting to be picked up. There is no boss here, so just defeat the normal enemies, grab the tools, and leave.
How To Use The Salvage Bench
Once you grab the tools, head back to the Clearfell Encampment and speak with Renly. This will complete the quest, allowing you to use the salvage bench.
To use the bench, interact with it. Upon doing so, you’ll see a little tab pop up with a hammer icon. You’ll need to click on the hammer and then use it on the gear in your inventory that you want to salvage.
Not everything can be salvaged though. Instead, you are only able to salvage gear with rune sockets or gear that has any percentage of quality.
Rune sockets appear directly on the gear, while quality is displayed under the item type in the description.
By salvaging these types of items, you’ll get the following items.
