With rumors of a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy running rampant, Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games must improve on issues with its predecessor. Though this one key issue may seem minor compared to other players’ wants and wishes, Hogwarts Legacy includes a Chekhov’s gun that Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. have yet to fire.
This hypothetical Hogwarts Legacy sequel could include many features that players have wished for, like a Triwizard Tournament or Quidditch. The new title may even be used to explore other periods of time in the wizarding world or reexamine characters introduced in the books and films. But arguably the easiest fix for this Hogwarts Legacy sequel is to not feed into the hopes of its players like the main menu for the original Hogwarts Legacy currently does.

Locations may seem like a small difference, but Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery proves that Hogwarts Legacy should take a leap with its next entry.
Hogwarts Legacy DLC is Nearly Non-Existent
Alongside rumors of a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy, rumors of DLC for the original game have been frequent for quite some time. The last leak reported came in October 2024 with a report by Insider Gaming. According to this report, Hogwarts Legacy will allegedly receive DLC totaling approximately ten to fifteen hours of additional content. This DLC will also allegedly be included in a Definitive Edition of the game. The Insider Gaming report also alleged that the DLC will cost between $20 to $30 and release sometime in 2025.
If these leaks are correct, Hogwarts Legacy will finally be able to make good on the “Additional Content” button featured in its main menu. Still, this Chekhov’s gun has been a sore reminder to Potterheads that Hogwarts Legacy has yet to receive full-fledged DLC, which is something that should not take as long to provide in the sequel.
There is one lackluster piece of DLC available for Hogwarts Legacy, as A Dark Arts Pack is available to players for $19.99. This pack includes a Thestral Mount, a Dark Arts Cosmetic Set, and the Dark Arts Battle Arena. Players have noted that this pack provides roughly twenty minutes total of in-game content, hardly making it a true expansion for Hogwarts Legacy.
While the original Hogwarts Legacy may finally be pulling the trigger on its Chekhov’s gun via the Definitive Edition pack, assuming leaks prove true, a hypothetical Hogwarts Legacy sequel cannot make the same mistake as the original game.
There’s Plenty of Room for Hogwarts Legacy DLC
Building new DLC for this hypothetical Hogwarts Legacy sequel seems simple in theory, but could make coming up with DLC for the original Hogwarts Legacy, fresh concepts for the sequel, and for the hypothetical sequel’s DLC more complex. Simply put, Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games must decide what new content is chosen for each game and their expansions.
Other Harry Potter games have made bold leaps in expanding their setting. Another Hogwarts-centric game, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, recently introduced a new plot line in Egypt. If the Hogwarts Legacy sequel establishes a location outside Hogwarts that could affect the game’s plot, perhaps its DLC could force players to travel off of Hogwarts grounds. After all, the main locations in Hogwarts Legacy are Hogwarts, the Forbidden Forest, and Hogsmeade. Including another setting through DLC would not break up the immersion of the existing open-world, as players can decide whether they’d like to visit it for themselves.
Ultimately, a Hogwarts Legacy sequel should have DLC at some point if Avalanche Software and Warner Bros. Games decide to keep an “Additional Content” button in the main menu, as fans have been teased by the option in the first game’s menu for several months without it doing much of anything.
