Companion Has A New Trailer And M3GAN Fans Will Love This Horror Movie

The Blumhouse horror movie M3GAN told a wildly entertaining (and just plain wild) story about a killer doll who is meant to be a friend for lonely children, and now another film is telling a scary story about robots.

As reported by Bloody Disgusting, there is a new trailer for Companion, which is produced by Zach Cregger, who wrote and directed the intense 2022 horror movie Barbarian.

Mason Gooding’s Next Horror Movie Heart Eyes Has A Fun Trailer

Mason Gooding, who is beloved for playing Chad in the Scream franchise, is starring in the slasher movie Heart Eyes, and the scary trailer is here.

Although horror fans might have heard that this is a horror movie about robots, the Companion trailer shares a few more details. The movie stars Sophie Thatcher as a robot named Iris. When talking about her relationship with Josh (Jack Quaid), Iris says:

“There have been two moments in my life when I was happiest. The first was the day I met Josh. And the second was the day I killed him.”

The movie appears to be full of twists and turns and, along with the Lucy Hale movie F Marry Kill, tells a fascinating story of a relationship gone horribly wrong. Companion also follows in the tradition of funny, campy horror movies like M3GAN as there is a great scene when Josh asks “Are you breaking up with me?” and Iris says “It’s not you, it’s me.” It will be interesting to see if Companion includes other jokes about modern dating. Since one of the shots in the trailer shows Iris covered in blood, it’s clear that Companion has a sense of humor but some gory scenes, too.

Drew Hancock wrote and directed the film, which also includes cast members Megan Suri, Lukas Gage, Harvey Guillén, and Rupert Friend. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Hancock is also writing and directing My Wife and I Bought a Ranch, which is being developed for Amazon MGM Studios.

Thatcher has become a staple of the horror genre as she stars in the gory teen drama Yellowjackets and the Hugh Grant horror film Heretic. In an interview with The Cut, she talked about the scary opening scene of Companion where her character isn’t very likable. She said:

“At the beginning, I’m handcuffed and screaming and then it goes into this plea for my boyfriend to still love me. I’ve never had a scene that has taken so many different turns, but Jack Quaid is a really f***ing good and present actor. When in doubt, just think about the other person. I’ve related to being codependent in relationships, so it was easy to tap into that feeling.”

It’s common to see eerie dolls in horror movies and this trope is always a lot of fun to watch. But it’s rare to see a character start a relationship with someone who he then realizes is a robot, which is what appears to be happening here. Companion will be in theaters on January 31st, 2025, and fans will be able to see what happens to Iris and Josh. Chances are that the movie will have more than a few surprises.
