Bosch: Legacy season 3 will hit screens in March 2025, and fans are preparing for an abrupt end to Harry Bosch’s solo story, after Amazon unceremoniously canceled it last year. To add insult to injury, Amazon doesn’t seem too interested in promoting the upcoming series, showing favoritism towards shows like Reacher.
Harry Bosch has dominated the streaming service for over a decade now, and Bosch: Legacy has been a huge ratings hit despite Amazon’s reticence to actually promote it. Word of mouth spreads quickly, and fans have shown how much the crime saga means to them, with nearly 20,000 signatures on the Save Bosch: Legacy petition. Amazon did release a long-overdue first image a few weeks ago, but there has been no trailer, and no attempt to drum up any excitement for season 3.

Bosch: Legacy – Titus Welliver’s Contract On The Ballard Spin-Off Is Very Revealing
Titus Welliver is only contracted to three episodes on Ballard, but Amazon knew they were canceling Bosch: Legacy prior to this.
Prior to 2014, Amazon was primarily known for being a delivery service, but when Netflix evolved into a fully fledged streaming platform, Jeff Bezos jumped on the bandwagon and Prime Video was born. Amazon needed a flagship show to launch them into the stratosphere, and they called on Michael Connelly’s successful book series about LAPD detective, Harry Bosch, and adapted it for television. They toyed with a few different shows, but it was Bosch that put Amazon on the map, and it continues to flourish over a decade later, albeit via the spin-off Bosch: Legacy. Despite the success of the Bosch-verse, Amazon has never felt the need to actually promote the show, often resting on its laurels and relying on the fans to push it.
There has always been this strange attitude towards Bosch and Bosch: Legacy, almost like Amazon had wanted to cancel it for several years. Bosch: Legacy is the only show on television that actually seems to know where it’s going, using the blueprint of Michael Connelly’s superb novels to guide it over the years. Fans signed a petition to persuade Amazon to extend it after seven successful seasons of the original Bosch series and they listened, and Bosch: Legacy was born from that. It finally seemed like Amazon was realizing the potential for universe building, with the announcement that two spin-offs were in the works back in 2023: Ballard and the Jerry Edgar solo show. However, Amazon finally saw an opportune moment to ditch Bosch: Legacy last year, with Ballard on the horizon, and they show no signs of actually giving the show one final promotional push ahead of its forced final season.

It’s been several months since the two images of Harry Bosch and Renee Ballard were released, showing them joining forces in the final episode of Bosch: Legacy season 3. Since then, there had been nothing to promote Bosch: Legacy until the image of Bosch and Chandler running from danger was released last month. In hindsight, Amazon was more interested in looking ahead to the Ballard spin-off, than actually focusing on promoting the upcoming season of Bosch: Legacy all those months ago. Reacher is the teacher’s pet over at Amazon right now, and there have been exclusive pictures, a teaser and full trailer, accompanied by updates from the cast and crew ahead of its third season, which is set to air next month. As for Bosch: Legacy: nothing but silence.
The cast and crew of Bosch: Legacy clearly aren’t allowed to speak, as fans have heard nothing from them since the cringe-inducing ‘thanks for everything Amazon’ statements, back in September 2024, after the streamer canceled the show. It’s around two months until Bosch: Legacy is set to be released, and Amazon shows no signs of actually promoting the show. It’s not like they are still working on it ahead of its release, as it’s been in the can for months. In fact, Bosch: Legacy could have been released in the Fall of 2024, similar to when season 2 landed the previous year. Did Amazon delay Bosch: Legacy to move it closer to Ballard’s release in late 2025? Most likely. They probably figured they could use Bosch: Legacy as a promotional tool for Ballard, while burying the majority of season 3 to coincide with the release of the juggernaut that is Reacher in February. Reacher will conveniently end its third run just in time for Amazon to promote that standalone final episode of Bosch: Legacy season 3, which will act as a backdoor pilot for Ballard. Case solved.
