When it comes to the world of sports, the WWE and AEW have been embroiled in a years-long rivalry that has added an extra layer of intrigue to the sport. While the WWE remains on top, the AEW has brought forth plenty of its own stars, which has expanded the sport beyond the reaches of its massive competitor. Not only that, but both companies have had their own video game counterparts that bring action-packed and gloriously over-the-top fights to gamers.

Such a rivalry has a similar vibe to the competition between DC and Marvel. Like the WWE and AEW, DC and Marvel have enjoyed a healthy rivalry that has been beneficial to both companies, leading many to wish for a DC vs. Marvel video game. Specifically, there has been a lot of discussion about Mortal Kombat‘s NetherRealm Studios being the perfect team to bring a DC vs. Marvel game to life, but only time will tell if this ever happens. However, if such a game gets made, WWE and AEW would also greatly benefit from having their own rivalry-based video game.

A WWE vs AEW Game Would Likely Be a Hit, But It’s Easier Said Than Done

Despite the two companies benefiting from their shared rivalry, it’s also a feud that doesn’t exactly allow for the groups to work together. WWE may have the upper hand when it comes to success, but the AEW has proven itself a formidable opponent, even if it still has underdog status. Compared to WWE, AEW is an incredibly fresh company, and there is still time for it to grow and potentially expand to be a far stronger threat to WWE’s power. Such a fiery rivalry may keep a WWE vs. AEW game from ever happening, but it could be too massive an opportunity for the two wrestling promoters to miss out on.

The AEW was founded in 2019, while the start of the WWE can be traced back to the 1950s, when it was known as the Capitol Wrestling Corporation, or CWC.

WWE vs. AEW Could Bring Gamers’ Fantasy Wrestling Moments to Life

Both promoters provide their own great drama-fueled stories. From Rhea Ripley and Liv Morgan’s ongoing feud in the WWE to Kyle Fletcher’s betrayal of Will Ospreay in the AEW this year, there are plenty of fascinating company-centric rivalries. However, some of the sport’s biggest names crossing into unknown wrestling territory could make for some epic moments. From a Cody Rhodes vs. Swerve Strickland match to Damien Priest taking on Hangman Page, there is a treasure trove of powerful wrestling match-ups that could only be found in a WWE/AEW crossover.

Although such a collaboration is highly unlikely, it isn’t completely out of the realm of possibility if both companies see the benefit in such a game. Ultimately, a WWE vs. AEW game is far more likely than any real-life crossover, but it’s unclear if a project like this will ever see the light of day.

Another AEW Game Needs to Appear Sooner, Rather Than Later

With WWE 2K24 finding success as a solid sports entry last year, AEW needs to catch up when it comes to its gaming presence. There are hopes that another AEW game is on the horizon, but it currently has yet to be confirmed. For a hypothetical WWE vs. AEW game to be possible, both companies will need to have a strong audience with gamers.

As AEW grows as a company, it will be fascinating to see how it continues to size up against such a juggernaut of a competitor.
