I have so many questions about Fumito Ueda’s Project Robot, and there’s no sign of any answers.
That was until now, when the Argentine director gave a positive status update on the project to Radio TU, a radio station in his home country.
The Shadow Of The Colossus Movie Lives On
Initially reported by Reconectados, Muschietti told the station, “The film has been in development for 10 years, and now the possibility of making it opens up,” stressing that it wasn’t “an abandoned project by any means.”
Despite admitting he wasn’t a huge gamer, Muschietti called Shadow of the Colossus a “masterpiece” and shared of his project that, “I love that film, there is a script that I like a lot.”

Unfortunately, full production on the movie hasn’t begun yet, with financing being Muschietti’s biggest hurdle. “There are factors that have nothing to do with your hobby and desire to make it, but with how popular an intellectual property like this is,” he said.
“Shadow of the Colossus is a cult game, but to make a good film, there is a studio that puts the numbers and says how much it is worth to give the director 200, 150, or 100 million dollars. There are different versions of the film, and obviously, I want them to give me 200 million, but this is another factor to take into account.”

A $200 million budget may be wishful thinking from the director for a project that would be seen as risky by investors. For context, Deadpool & Wolverine, a much safer bet, also had a $200 million budget, and another PlayStation adaptation, Uncharted, had a $120 million budget.
Sony and PlayStation are making a much larger push with their cross-media productions, though, with Horizon Zero Dawn and Helldivers movies recently announced, so it will be interesting to see if, now Muschietti has reignited the project, some budget may be available from there.
