Summary
- Dexter: Resurrection adds original actors David Zayas, James Remar, and Jack Alcott, posing potential problems for the titular character.
- Plot details remain unknown, leaving fans to speculate how the actors will reprise their roles.
- The show may focus on Dexter evading authorities as consequences of the New Blood series surface.
The Dexter: Resurrection cast added 3 actors who reprise roles of the titular character’s past, each of whom could pose a problem for Michael C. Hall’s serial killer.
Dexter: Resurrection follows the New Blood miniseries that chronicled Dexter Morgan’s exploits after he faked his death in the original series and went into exile in a fictional small town in New York under a new name. That series concluded with Dexter’s son Harrison–who tracked his father down after being abandoned as a child in the original show’s finale– fatally shooting Dexter at his father’s request, with showrunner Clyde Phillips initially confirming Dexter was dead. However, the announcement of Dexter: Ressurection seemingly reversed those plans, and the prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, opened by revealing Dexter was revived by doctors.

The serial killer’s story will continue in the present-day series Dexter: Resurrection, which begins production this month. Deadline reports the Dexter: Ressurection will feature David Zayas as Sergeant Angel Batista, Jack Alcott as Harrison Morgan, and James Remar as Dexter’s adoptive father Harry Morgan. All 3 actors join the Dexter: Resurrection cast as series regulars. Zayas and Remar reprise their roles from the original Dexter series, with Zayas also making two appearances in Dexter: New Blood. Alcott first appeared as a teenage Harrison Morgan in New Blood and his character was last seen driving out of town after shooting his father and leaving him for dead.
Dexter: Resurrection plot details haven’t been revealed, so it’s unclear what role Zayas, Alcott, and Remar’s characters will play in the series or how they will return. Most perplexing is how Remar’s Harry Morgan will factor into the new show. In the original Dexter series, Harry Morgan died 10 years before the show began but appeared through flashbacks or as the personification of Dexter’s inner monologue. However, in the penultimate episode of Dexter, the titular serial killer decides he no longer needs Harry. The role of Dexter’s inner monologue in New Blood is taken over by his adoptive sister Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter), who died in the original show’s series finale. Some fans think Dexter: Resurrection needs to move past Debra Morgan, so perhaps Harry Morgan will resume his role as Dexter’s “ghost.”
Time will tell, but it seems likely that Dexter: Resurrection will at least partly focus on the character as he attempts to evade authorities. Dexter: New Blood concluded with his identity revealed and his lover Angela Bishop, the Chief of Police in the town Dexter was hiding in, deducing that he is Miami’s “Bay Harbor Butcher” and revealing that Dexter was alive to Angel Batista. All of this will be almost impossible to undo, so fans are excited to see the consequences of these events. Of course, there are other Dexter: Resurrection fan theories regarding what the show is about. Either way, Dexter’s next story should be interesting.
Dexter: Resurrection is scheduled to premiere on Showtime in the summer of 2025.
