MultiVersus’ character roster is consistently expanded with dynamic figures. The game’s community is constantly speculating on potential new additions, with leaks from prominent members of the community seemingly popping up all the time. With such a dedicated player base, it’s no surprise that plenty of gamers are looking forward to one of MultiVersus’ most recently leaked characters. However, MultiVersus could have capitalized on the rapturous success of one film if it had slated this character for a previous season.
Casual players of MultiVersus may be unaware of the game’s tie-in comics, which began their release in mid-September 2024. Not only did these tie-in comics feature established characters like Bugs Bunny, Jake and Finn from Adventure Time, Steven Universe, and DC’s Trinity, but they also teased characters that could be headed to MultiVersus at some point in the future. According to recent leaks, one of these characters – the Wicked Witch – could be headed to the fighting game shortly. However, it would have made more sense if she released a bit earlier.

The Wicked Witch of the West Flies into MultiVersus
MultiVersus: Collision Detected has a short six-issue run. Since this run was published by DC Comics, Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman serve as its protagonists. The comic’s first issue is titled “Level One: The Rabbit, The Witch, and The Star Child.” While the Rabbit and the Star Child are obvious references to Bugs Bunny and Steven Universe, determining who the Witch could be on MultiVersus’ character roster is a tad more difficult. Fortunately, the comic soon reveals the Witch to be none other than the Wicked Witch of the West.
With this tie-in essentially making the Wicked Witch of the West canon to the MultiVersus universe, players in the know about the comic series have been expecting the character to fly into MultiVersus’ roster for some time. However, recent leaks by an established MultiVersus leaker on X (formerly Twitter) allege that she will head to the game in Season 6.
Predicting how she would fit into the roster is also very simple. Because Player First and Warner Bros. Games would likely give her some form of magical powers and flying abilities, Mage is the most likely archetype for the Wicked Witch of the West to slot into. Also known as Ranged fighters, Mages tend to use traps and projectiles. Other magic users like Raven fall under this archetype, though magic users aren’t exclusively Mages in MultiVersus.
Since a large handful of MultiVersus players are aware that the Wicked Witch of the West will be headed to the game at some point, it’s surprising that MultiVersus did not simply capitalize on the comic tie-ins and add her onto the character roster during Season 3 when the comics were released. However, MultiVersus: Collision Detected isn’t the only property MultiVersus could have capitalized on.
MultiVersus Missed a Wicked Opportunity
As of writing, Wicked has made almost $700 million at the worldwide box office. This musical prequel to The Wizard of Oz has crushed records and skyrocketed in popularity. The film was released on Thanksgiving of 2024, during MultiVersus’ Season 3. This is also the same season that MultiVersus: Collision Detected was released, making it an optimal time for the game to introduce the Wicked Witch of the West to MultiVersus. For some reason, though, it didn’t happen.
There are a few reasons that MultiVersus may not have added the Wicked Witch of the West during Season 3. The season introduced the Powerpuff Girls and Nubia as playable characters. MultiVersus included The City of Townsville map at launch, but not the map’s source protagonists. It makes sense that the Powerpuff Girls would be added to MultiVersus at some point, and it’s quite possible that the game did not want the Wicked Witch of the West to dtstract from the trio’s addition.
The ownership of the Wicked Witch of the West is also a bit confusing. Wicked is a film by Universal Studios and the original Wizard of Oz film was produced by MGM Studios. It’s possible that Warner Bros. did not want to add the Wicked Witch of the West to MultiVersus when it could conflict with another studio, though Warner Bros. and Universal have collaborated plenty of times, namely in amusement parks.
While the Wicked Witch of the West’s addition to MultiVersus may have missed the Wicked buzz, she’ll certainly make the multiverse wicked on her own.
