Marvel Rivals Devs Have Reworked Jeff’s Ultimate For Season One

Marvel Rivals Devs Have Reworked Jeff's Ultimate For Season One

Summary

  • Marvel Rivals devs have confirmed Jeff’s Ultimate ability won’t be quite as effective in season one.
  • The detection range will be altered to better align with the warning signal Jeff gives when he’s about to perform the move.
  • That either means its hit box will be reduced, the gap between warning and action will be longer, or both.

Marvel Rivals‘s season zero comes to an end this week with season one taking its place. The first full season for Rivals and with it, four new heroes. It’s not just additions to the roster that are going to make the upcoming season interesting. There are also big changes coming for select heroes and villains, and the team behind the massively popular hero shooter has shared some bad news for Jeff the Land Shark mains.

Jeff has been one of the most discussed characters during season zero as those dominated by him on the multiversal battlefield have struggled to stay mad at the little land shark since he’s so darn adorable. Liking Jeff more than you loathe him will be a little easier starting in season one as his Ultimate will be easier to avoid.

Hela And Hakweye Will Be Getting Nerfed In Marvel Rivals Season One

Nerfs and buffs are almost certainly coming in season one, and it looks very likely Hela and Hawkeye will be taking hits.

Developers behind Rivals have been sharing updates about what to expect from season one all week long, and tucked away among the announcements was a note on how exactly Jeff’s finishing move will be tweaked. Officially put, the detection range for Jeff’s ultimate ability will be fine-tuned to better align with its warning signal. That is, more or less, exactly how the Rivals team has worded it, but what does that mean?

Jeff’s Ultimate Ability Is Getting Nerfed In Season One

Not So Yummy Yummy

Each member of the Rivals roster has a war cry that warns enemies that they’re about to use their Ultimate. Jeff’s is less of a cry and more of a noise as a chewing sound is followed immediately by swirling water. That water takes up so much real estate on the map that by the time you’ve registered what’s about to happen, you’re already inside Jeff’s tummy and about to be spit off the side of the stage if you’re battling a Jeff main who knows what they’re doing.

The information shared regarding the tweaks to Jeff’s Ult suggests starting in season one, there will be a slightly longer gap between Jeff making his Ultimate noise and enemies being swallowed up. It might also mean the whirlpool that forms is slightly smaller. Jeff’s Ultimate is currently so effective that I wouldn’t be surprised if both the warning period is extended and the whirlpool is scaled down to give Jeff’s foes a better chance of avoiding it.

Jeff’s nerfed Ultimate will be joined by Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman who both join the Rivals roster this Friday when season one begins at 4 am EST. Fellow Fantastic Four members The Thing and Human Torch have also been confirmed but won’t be added to the game until later in season one.
