Quests in Ys Memoire: The Oath In Felghana aren’t tracked in the traditional sense. Adol has no journal in which he logs them, nor does the game keep any formal record of them. As such, it’s on the player to find and remember them. Most are found back in Redmont, though it does mean some are much more elusive.

One of those quests involves traveling all the way up to Valestein Castle, an endeavor that might seem fruitless seeing as the guard doesn’t seem to want your presence, and Count McGuire now deeply aware of your identity. Yet that is just where one of the game’s most valuable items is awaiting you.
How To Start The Finding Christof Quest
While side quests aren’t strictly categorised as such within the game, finding Christof is what could be classed as the first side quest in the game, making it that much easier to miss. Few would expect to have to travel to the far reaches of the map to have to find the very first quest in the game. Yet to the entrance of Valestein Castle is exactly where you must go.
The timeframe in which this quest is open is very slim, opening up after escaping the Zone of Lava and before progressing too deep into the Abandoned Mine. For safety’s sake, it would be best to complete this quest in its entirety before even approaching the Abandoned Mine.
To start, just speak with the maid and guard, Fran and Andre, by the portcullis entrance of Valestein Castle. They will explain that a child has gone missing, and kindly enlist your aid.
Where To Find Christof
This is fine and dandy. Bleeding heart that Adol is, of course he accepts. Although you are given next to no direction on where Christof has actually run off to. If you find him in your travels, is all. And the cruelest part is that, naturally, you never would come across Christof.
That’s because this missing child has run all the way to the Illburns Ruins by himself in attempt to follow his father. A cruelty, that his father’s lust for power has endangered his own son. Regardless of Adol’s own conflicts with Count McGuire, he finds it to be a moral duty to help young Christof, and requests that he follow him back to the castle.
And that’s exactly what you must do. With Christof following close behind, guide him back to the castle now, making sure he is not attacked by enemies along the way. He doesn’t have a lot of HP, and can’t handle more than a hit or two.
Try to defeat the enemies along the way with the Ignis Bracelet to ensure they get nowhere near Christof.
The Reward For Finding Christof
Upon returning to Valestein Castle, Adol is perhaps offered a reward on a grander scale that he expected. Rather than simply handing off Christof, getting his reward and leaving on his merry way, he is invited into Valestein Castle to meet with the Lady of the Castle.
After meeting Count McGuire’s wife, Elizabetha, and Christof’s sister, Alice. It is at this point that Chester appears, slying coaxing Adol out of the castle in a rage that he dared to even show his face. As compensation for not being able to host you for dinner, Elizabetha offers Adol the Augite Brooch.
Rather than being an accessory you must equip, this is a passive item like the Talisman of War, and increases the drop rate of items from enemies, from things like healing herbs and damage boosts, to gold and Raval Ore. It’s obscenely powerful, especially thos get this early in the game.
