While it’s not clear when the next Mortal Kombat game will come out yet, its release should lead to a major change for Mortal Kombat 1. As it stands, Mortal Kombat 1 already has a decent amount of content. It provides the expected single and multiplayer gameplay modes, while also having a few new features like the Kameo system and rotating Invasions seasons. Even so, it’s inevitable that the game will one day reach the end of its lifespan. When that happens, there’s one move that the developers could make that should do wonders to make fans happy.
Even though Mortal Kombat 1‘s DLC characters are still rolling out, the full lifespan of the game is still a mystery. While it was originally said that the developers planned for it to be the longest-lived Mortal Kombat title, recent events have thrown that status into question. The repeating of the first Invasions season combined with rumors of canceled DLC can lead fans to wonder if the game’s fire will burn out sooner than expected. For a game with online elements, it’s something that always elicits some concern. For Mortal Kombat 1, the true end probably won’t be until the next game’s release.

Mortal Kombat 1’s Invasions Mode is an Ambitious Addition
Out of the game’s new features, Mortal Kombat 1‘s Invasions mode is likely the most fleshed-out. Invasions see players moving a fighter of their choice around a map, clearing various encounters as they make their way toward each area’s boss. The mode features mechanics like talismans and relics that can be equipped to augment fighters’ abilities, as well as an elemental chart that gives various fighters advantages and weaknesses to each other. The developers clearly put a lot of effort into the Invasions mode. At the same time, there is one worrying aspect of the mode revolving around its eventual end of service.
Invasions Seasons in Mortal Kombat 1 Are Only Available Temporarily
Mortal Kombat 1‘s continued support will likely fade after the next Mortal Kombat game’s release, which could leave Invasions in the dust. After all, Invasions come in the form of a series of seasons, with each one running over a period of time. If support ends, that would mean that all of Invasions’ unique content would go to waste. One way to prevent this would be for every season to become playable once that time comes. It may require some innovation on the developers’ part to make it so. However, it would make sure that the Invasions mode’s content could be preserved for players’ continued enjoyment.
So far, only one Invasions season in Mortal Kombat 1 has been rerun, the Scorpion-focused Season of the Spectre.
Mortal Kombat 1 Can Finish By Releasing All Invasions Seasons Permanently
Permanently opening all of Invasions’ seasons could have other advantages. The themed skins from Mortal Kombat 1‘s Invasions would remain available for players to earn with this tactic. Not only that, but making all seasons available would make it so that players wouldn’t have to wait for a rerun season to make a run at a cosmetic they missed the first time around. If it’s possible to make all seasons available, it would be an incredibly convenient gift for players. Out of everything that Mortal Kombat 1 could do as a final update, there aren’t many more options that would be more fitting.
Of course, the game’s full future is not written in stone yet, and the total amount of Mortal Kombat 1 Invasions seasons is not concrete either. However, by the time that all is said and done, releasing all of the seasons for players to play at their leisure would be a good choice. The biggest argument for this would be the convenience of having the seasons all playable at once. Hopefully, Mortal Kombat 1‘s eventual final curtain call will be able to bring its entire run together.
