Though many heroes have adopted the Captain Marvel moniker over the last few decades, few have become quite as synonymous with the alias as Carol Danvers. Debuting in 1968, Carol Danvers became Ms. Marvel in 1977, and finally became Captain Marvel in the 2000s, fully embracing her role as one of the leading members of the Avengers and New Avengers. According to recent datamines posted by X0XLEAK on Twitter, Captain Marvel might be heading to Marvel Rivals soon.
Staying true to its pre-release promise, Marvel Rivals will be adding The Fantastic Four during the game’s first full-length season, completely free-of-charge. More heroes are expected to join Marvel Rivals‘ roster soon after, and though none have been officially confirmed so far, a handful of potential heroes have been leaked. Captain Marvel is one such hero, and given the hero’s comic book powers, her ability kit has a lot of potential to offer the ultimate superhero fantasy.

What Marvel Rivals’ Captain Marvel Ability Kit Could Look Like
Captain Marvel’s Potential Role in Marvel Rivals
In the 1980s, Carol Danvers was experimented on by The Brood, turning her into the hero Binary, a being capable of unleashing the power of a star. Though Danvers quickly lost most of her Binary abilities, she retained some, leading to the hero’s modern ability set.
Captain Marvel is often portrayed as an incredibly powerful superhero with superhuman strength, agility, durability, and reflexes, along with the ability to fly and manipulate energy. These powerful abilities make Captain Marvel a natural fit for Marvel Rivals‘ Vanguard class, letting her tank damage and dish it out in equal measure.
Even with The Fantastic Four, Marvel Rivals has a wide gap in the number of Vanguards, Duelists, and Strategists in the game, so getting another Vanguard in Captain Marvel would be a great way to rebalance the roster a little.
What Captain Marvel’s Abilities Could be in Marvel Rivals
In most of her comic, movie, and past video game appearances, Captain Marvel has fought at both close-range, with her fists, and long-range, with her powerful blasts of radiant energy. Marvel Rivals could capture these two fighting styles easily by giving Captain Marvel a primary and alternate fire, with the primary letting players punch foes, and the alternate fire letting them fire beams of energy.
One of Captain Marvel’s most prevalent powers in the source material is her ability to absorb all types of different energies, and unleash them in a violent burst. Marvel Rivals could offer one such ability, letting players absorb enemy fire for a brief duration and launch it back out. Marvel Rivals could make this ability even more distinct by changing the type of energy released by Captain Marvel depending on what attacks she absorbs. For instance, absorbing Thor’s abilities could briefly grant Captain Marvel lightning-imbued attacks.
Another key component of Captain Marvel’s ability set is her powers of flight. Marvel Rivals is already home to a few heroes who stick to the skies, but Captain Marvel could distinguish herself by being able to dash through the air faster than the likes of Iron Man and Storm, albeit for a more limited duration.
What Captain Marvel’s Ultimate Could be in Marvel Rivals
When it comes to all-powerful Ultimate moves, Marvel Rivals‘ version of Captain Marvel would have a few different options to choose from. Marvel Rivals could take a page out of Marvel’s Midnight Suns‘ playbook and let Captain Marvel briefly become Binary for her Ultimate, granting her increased health, speed, and damage. Another fun option would be a move that references Avengers: Endgame‘s final fight, letting her fly directly into enemies as she does Thanos’ flagship.
