The Best Party Setup For Gallagher In Honkai: Star Rail

Abundance and Preservation units are some of the easiest to place in a team when it comes to Honkai: Star Rail. This is generally because these paths are meant to keep your characters alive, and you’ll need that no matter what kind of team you’re using.

Here are all the materials you’ll need to make Gallagher fill the sustainer role in your party in Honkai: Star Rail.

Gallagher is a four-star Fire character following the path of Abundance, but he also has a special aspect in his kit that increases the Break DMG taken by the enemy. While you can use him in any team, he can give some special value with proper units.

Updated on January 07, 2025, by Sanyam Jain: When Gallagher was first released, he wasn’t of much use outside of his healing due to the lack of the right characters. With time, these characters have been released in the form of Firefly and Rappa, and the list has been updated to reflect the same.

Himeko is one of the easiest choices when you’re looking to build a team for Gallagher simply because she relies heavily on breaking an enemy’s weakness. Whenever a certain number of weaknesses are broken, Himeko launches her follow-up attack dealing some commendable damage.

However, you’ll need a third unit on this team that can solicit the weakness breaks since Gallagher doesn’t increase the break efficiency unless he has the final Eidolon. Gallagher and Himeko sharing the combat type also helps the team as you can use the Penacony ornament set on him.

Dan Heng: Imbibitor Lunae has stayed on top of the meta ever since his release, and he’s also gotten some indirect buffs in the form of characters like Sparkle. However, the weakness break aspect of his kit can be easy to overlook since it isn’t emphasized in his kit.

When you buff Imbibitor Lunae’s basic attack three times using his Skill, you can deal damage to three adjacent targets. Apart from this damage being quite big, the attack also shreds enemy weakness by a significant amount. Paired with the Break DMG from Gallagher’s kit, you’ll be able to see higher numbers with this unit.

The synergy between Dr. Ratio and Gallagher is already evident since it’s hard to miss the amount of damage he can do to an enemy’s Toughness with his Skill, Ultimate, and follow-up attack combined. However, there’s a second reason for these two units to go really well together.

Here are the best tips and tricks on how to play as Dr. Ratio!

Dr. Ratio thrives on the number of debuffs you have on the enemy, and you need about six debuffs on the target if you want to get the maximum benefit from his kit. Gallagher can apply two of these debuffs from his Ultimate and enhanced basic attack, which makes it a great combination if you can have good uptime on his Ultimate.

From one character that relies on debuffs to another, Acheron was first released alongside Gallagher in Honkai: Star Rail. Unlike Dr. Ratio, she relies more on applying the debuffs to the enemy. You already have to use two Nihility characters in her team if you don’t have her Eidolons.

However, Gallagher can be the fourth pseudo-Nihility character as well, allowing her to get her Ultimate back much faster than you’d expect. The faster you get Acheron’s Ultimate, the more damage you can deal to the enemies.

Misha

Misha might not deal the most damage when compared with other Destruction characters, but the one thing he’s phenomenal at is breaking the enemy’s Weakness, especially if you’re fighting single-target boss enemies. His Ultimate can hit up to ten times, taking away a big part of the enemy’s Toughness with each hit.

Ice weakness break is also one of the strongest in the game as it essentially skips an enemy’s turn once. Combined with the extra break DMG from Gallagher, you can make Misha a great sub-DPS on the team.

When you’re dealing with the Weakness Break mechanic in Honkai: Star Rail, the main problem comes when the enemies don’t have the weakness possessed by your desired character. Thankfully, HoYoverse is starting to introduce various characters that don’t get affected by this, just like Xueyi.

Once you get her second Eidolon, you can reduce enemy Toughness regardless of their weaknesses with both your Ultimate and follow-up attack. Considering the fact that she also scales on Break Effect, this is one of the best combinations you’ll find for Gallagher.

Of course, we can’t talk about Break Effect teams without mentioning the character that takes this play style to another level. Ruan Mei is a five-star unit that can give her entire team a massive DMG and Weakness Break Efficiency bonus by just one press of her Skill, and this lasts for three turns.

She can also delay an enemy’s Weakness Recovery when your allies attack them when they have their weakness broken. All of this combined with the Break DMG provided by Gallagher and the extra Ice Break DMG from Ruan Mei makes for some screenshot-worthy Break DMG numbers.

DoT Characters

Finally, the best use you’ll find for Gallagher’s Break DMG from the Besotted effect will be when you’re using him alongside DoT-based teams. This works especially well when you’re using one main DoT trigger like Kafka or Black Swan along with a secondary DoT unit built completely on Break Effect.

You’d want to get rid of all enemies’ weaknesses with this secondary DoT unit since the Break DMG dealt here counts as the active DoT on the enemy, which can be triggered over and over again with the likes of Kafka. You can probably imagine how broken this combination will be just by hearing about it.

Rappa/Firefly

While Gallagher is a decent healer, the highlight of his kit is arguably his Ultimate, which not only applies the Besotted effect on the enemies, but also buffs his next basic attack. The mentioned effect makes the enemies take increased Break DMG, which is perfect for Break-based characters like Firefly and Rappa.

These characters are quick at taking away the enemy’s Toughness bar and then dealing tons of Super Break DMG. You can combine this with Harmony Trailblazer, Fugue, or Ruan Mei to delay the enemy’s weakness recovery and deal much higher damage.
