Obscure Dynasty Warriors game is shutting down forever with no refunds

It’s almost 30 years since the first Dynasty Warriors game was released, and the sometimes fighting game, sometimes hack ‘n’ slash, and sometimes RPG has come a long, long way. Back in 1997, Dynasty Warriors was a straightforward beat ‘em up, and would-be rival to Tekken. Over three decades, however, Koei Tecmo’s series has gotten bigger and bigger, incorporating sandbox and free roam elements to become something closer to an open-world, crowd combat game. With Dynasty Warriors Origins about to land on Steam, one obscure and overlooked spin-off is also about to close down for good, and if you own it, you had better spend your in-game currency fast, because there won’t be any refunds.

The Dynasty Warriors Origins release date is just about here, marking the first new entry in the mainline fighting and RPG series since 2018. But as one game is born, another dies. You may not have heard of Dynasty Warriors M, but it’s a more strategy-driven, mobile spin-off which, admittedly, has picked up excellent user reviews on both the Android and Apple stores. Like the rest of the series, it follows the story of the Three Kingdoms, and lets you build your own army as well as your own city in which to train them. Unfortunately, just over a year since it was released, Dynasty Warriors M is about to be shut down.

“We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all our Warriors who have supported Dynasty Warriors M with interest and feedback for over a year since our launch,” the development team says. “Despite your continued support throughout our journey together, we regretfully inform you that Dynasty Warriors M will end its service on February 20, 2025. We sincerely thank you once again for your love and support for Dynasty Warriors M. We will do our utmost to provide the best service until the very end.”

As spotted by Games Industry, in-app purchases for Dynasty Warriors M have already been disabled. After Thursday February 20, the entire game will be pulled offline and will no longer be accessible – and if players have any in-game items left over, they won’t get their money back. “Please consume all your gold and items before the service shutdown as gold and items in possession will not be refunded,” the Dynasty Warriors M team says.

Between now and the release of Origins, you might want to try some of the other best action games, or maybe the best war games available on PC.
