The 2025 Horror Movies We’re Most Excited For

2025 is going to be an awesome year for horror fans, and there are a few sequels and original movies coming out that everyone will want to know about.

As the trailer shows, Gooding and Olivia Holt’s characters fall in love and find their new romance (and their lives) being by the Heart Eyes Killer. Ally (Holt) opens the closet door in her bedroom to find the masked villain waiting for her. As a news reporter explains, the killer has stalked couples every Valentine’s Day for the past few years, but no one can figure out why. The story follows the usual slasher formula where the clock is ticking and the main characters must fight for their survival while figuring out the mystery.

Divide/Conquer and Spyglass Media Group are producing Heart Eyes, which was written by Christopher Landon, Michael Kennedy, and Philip Murphy. Spyglass is known for producing Scream, the Eli Roth slasher Thanksgiving, and the 2022 remake of Hellraiser. Landon is known for making horror movies such as Freaky, Happy Death Day, and We Have a Ghost. Landon was also the original director attached to Scream 7 but left in December 2023 and Kevin Williamson took over.

Gooding and Holt have worked in the horror/thriller genre before. Gooding became famous playing Chad Meeks-Martin in Scream (2022) and Scream 6, and Holt starred in season 1 of the teen thriller Cruel Summer. Gooding is reprising his role of Chad in Scream 7 and, besides, Heart Eyes, recently starred in Kyle Mooney’s horror movie Y2K.

Although there have been horror movies set at Christmas and countless films where the main characters are celebrating the candy-filled holiday of Halloween, it’s rare for a horror film to take place on Valentine’s Day. In comparison to the cheesy 2001 film Valentine, Heart Eyes looks genuinely eerie, at least from the trailer. It’s hard not to be curious about who the killer is and why they’ve decided to go after couples who are celebrating this romantic day. It’s easy to imagine a Heart Eyes sequel or even a franchise about copycat killers on various holidays.

Heart Eyes will be released in movie theaters on February 7th, 2025, and fans will get a chance to see Gooding on the big screen before Scream 7 comes out in February 2026.
