Fortnite Chapter 6 has had a theme of Japanese iconography, down to samurai and a Katana already in the game, but the title had a different Katana sitting in its vault already. While it wasn’t back at first, with the new update we’ve seen the Kinetic Blade unvaulted in Fortnite. The Chapter 4 item is a fan favorite, and it’s back for the second half of the season.
There’s been loads of Fortnite melee weapons through the years, but the Kinetic blade is definitely a favorite. It combined a melee combo attack with a rotation tool that was one of the game’s most balanced. While very useful, it had its downsides. It also felt a lot less clunky to use than more modern rotation/melee solutions. It’s great to see the Kinetic Blade unvaulted. But now there’s another blade in the loot pool, will it still have pride of place in players’ loadouts?
Kinetic Blade Unvaulted in Fortnite
We’ve just finished up Winterfest for Fortnite, and while the next Fortnite update proper isn’t expected for a week still, there’s been some more minor changes today. The biggest is the Kinetic Blade unvaulted in Fortnite. This was a Chapter 4 item, very similar in function to the current Katana.
The Kinetic blade was a bit faster, a bit lighter. It didn’t grant the stamina-optimizing properties of the Katana, but the rotation of bursting forward had more charges and took less time to activate. The melee combo was a little quicker too, so you weren’t locked in quite as badly. However, while it has been unvaulted there’s been a handful of changes made to the Blade too. It’s had a bit of a nerf.
The big question is how it compares to the current Katana. While the Kinetic Blade definitely has the win for some forms of rotation, it doesn’t have the same benefits for stamina. That means it won’t be clutch or getting out of the storm, or pair as well with the invisibility Fortnite Chapter 6 medallion designed around the Katana.
It seems there’s still reasons to go for the Katana that’s already in the loot pool. However, the Kinetic Blade is going to be a lot of fun too. It’ll definitely make games more mobile for the next few weeks.
