Kill The Justice League Devs Hit With More Layoffs

Kill The Justice League Devs Hit With More Layoffs

Summary

  • Rocksteady faces fresh layoffs affecting multiple departments: programming, art, and QA.
  • As reported by Eurogamer, this would be the second round of layoffs after the failure of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
  • This is ahead of Suicide Squad’s final update this month.

Rocksteady has been hit with another round of layoffs, affecting multiple departments. These layoffs rolled out at the end of 2024, and come just before the final update for Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League later this month.

These layoffs have been reported by Eurogamer, who has spoken with some of the developers affected. It comes after the studio suffered its first round of post-Suicide Squad layoffs in September of last year, cutting the QA department in half. Today’s layoffs also affect QA, seeing the team shrink even further.

Warner Bros. is yet to acknowledge both these layoffs and the ones that were reported back in September. However, it was reported at the time that the cuts were made due to the poor commercial performance of Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.

As per the latest report, these layoffs affect programming, the art team, and once again, QA. Eurogamer says that “half a dozen” workers have been affected this time.

Unfortunately, in an industry where even a successful game launch can lead to job cuts and studio closures, this is not surprising. It’s been clear for some time that Suicide Squad is suffering as a live service, as the game frequently had low concurrent player figures on Steam, even after updates.

These updates are coming to an end soon, with the final one rolling out this month. It’s possible that this was sooner than planned, as fans believe that there were supposed to be four more playable characters added to the game over its lifetime.

If you wanted to try Suicide Squad but haven’t had the chance just yet, it’s one of the free games available to PS Plus users this month. It’s available to claim now alongside The Stanley Parable Ultra Deluxe and Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit.
