Ellefale, the Azure Queen of Death, is the second boss you will encounter in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana and is found at the end of the Tigray Quarry after you obtain the Ignis Bracelet. Unlike your encounter with Dularn, Ellefale will put up quite a battle, especially if you’re still not acclimated with your new Bracelet.

However, she is the perfect boss to encounter at this moment, as it teaches you how to be agile while also keeping your Bracelet in mind, having you charge it up while performing additional actions such as moving and jumping to evade her incoming attacks. Getting the hang of it will be slightly challenging, but once you have it down, you will swiftly have this thing over!

Recommended Level

Level 8

By the time you reach Ellefale, you should be around Level 8, which should be more than enough to take her down. If you are Level 6 or below, we strongly recommend farming a bit more before attempting to take her on, as she will deal substantially more damage to you.

Additionally, if you haven’t already, make sure you have obtained the Ruby from the secret Red Chest before starting this encounter, as it not only has your Ignis Bracelet deal more damage but also allows you to charge it up to deliver a much stronger attack, which will be extremely useful for this encounter!

Adol landing the finishing blow on Ellefale, the Azure Queen of Death, with his Ignis Bracelet in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana.

Like the Dularn encounter, Ellefale doesn’t have a whole lot of attacks at her disposal, which allows you to familiarize yourself with her general attack patterns and develop a strategy on how to counter them relatively fast. However, you must use your Ignis Bracelet to damage her, which can trip many newcomers up.

You can expect four different attacks from Ellefale, with some coming into play much later in the encounter, which she may not even cast. Nonetheless, you can learn about all the attacks she has locked and ready to go, how to deal with them, and how to deal sufficient damage to her to defeat her and obtain the Moonstar Statue!

Ellefale – Magic Disc Attack

Adol leaping over Ellefale's Magic Disc attack in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana.

One of Ellefale’s most common attacks is her Magic Disc, having her lift her right arm across her body toward her left shoulder before hurling a large Magic Disc across the ground at you, forcing you to leap over it.

Getting hit by this attack will deal quite a lot of damage, so it’s best to avoid it at all costs. We recommend running toward the screen when you see her begin casting it, then running back toward her and leaping over it as you continue forward!

Adol – Ignis Bracelet

The only time you can consistently attack Ellefale is when she performs the aforementioned Magic Disk action, as it allows you to simultaneously dodge the incoming attack and use your Ignis Bracelet to damage her. You can also begin charging your Ignis Bracelet in between attacks, allowing you to hurl a powered-up fireball at her face as you leap over her Magic Disc.

To do this, after Ellefale performs an action, begin charging your Ignis Bracelet by holding down the input (you must have the Ruby we covered earlier) and keep it held down until Adol flashes with a white glow. Keep holding it down until she casts the Magic Disc, run toward the camera, double back, and as soon as you leap toward her and over her attack, let go of the button and launch a large fireball at her for massive damage.

Standard fireballs will also work here, but it will take substantially longer to take her down. While this method can take a bit to get the hang of, it is well worth learning, as it allows you to essentially ignore her other actions, as you’re not too worried about attacking until she performs this one!

Ellefale – Vertical Slash Attack

Adol running to the side of Ellefale's Vertical Slash attack in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana.

Another common action of Ellefale’s is her Vertical Slash attack, having her raise her left arm high above her head before launching a sizeable magical attack toward you that covers a lot of space vertically, leaving lots of room to the left and right of it.

As soon as you see Ellefale raise her left arm, begin running to the left or right until you’re close to the edge of the arena, then double back and start running to the other side. The attack won’t be fast enough to hit you and will pass behind you. You can also attack her during this action if you dodge it.

Charge your Ignis Bracelet as you begin running to the opposite end of the arena and keep it charged until the attack misses you, then turn toward her and let the fireball rip to deal substantial damage to Ellefale!

Ellefale – Wind Orb

Ellefale casting her Wind Orb attack, sending it hurtling toward Adol in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana.

Next up is Ellefale’s Wind Orb attack, which is rarely implemented on its own and is almost always paired with one of the actions above. It’s essentially a spiraling ball of wind that spirals sporadically around the arena as it approaches Adol, giving him another obstacle to try and evade.

For the most part, you won’t have to worry about this action until you drop her HP down about halfway. Still, even then, this attack rarely caused us issues, as it’s easy to see and keep away from, so it shouldn’t trip you up too much unless you’re a bit too close to her when she lets it loose!

Ellefale – Lighting Strikes

Ellafale hitting Adol with her Lighting Strikes in Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana.

Her Lightning Strikes attack, however, is an entirely different story and is something you must be mindful of, as it can be devastating if it hits you. Ellefale will lean forward before suddenly lifting both her arms toward the sky and throwing them forward violently, sending five lightning currents forward.

There will always be a gap between the third and fourth lighting current (if you’re looking at it from left to right), so try and position yourself there whenever you see her begin casting this attack. This is a very tricky action to evade and only comes into play whenever she has about a quarter of her health left.

We don’t recommend trying to attack during this action, as you should be focused primarily on avoiding it due to how much damage it can do to you, which can stop your attempt right then and there. Nonetheless, just repeat the steps above until Ellefale is defeated and obtain that precious Moonstar Statue!
