We may be on the verge of a community-wide psychotic break as desperate Grand Theft Auto 6 fans posit increasingly irrational theories about when the next trailer will be released. They also continue to hyperanalyse the first trailer released in December 2023, a staple of fandom. We’ve seen theories about the characters, environments, and factions of the new-look Vice City, but one user has taken their analysis to the next level.
Reddit user WarrantsAttention has lived up to their name by posting a spliced-together screenshot of every plant in the Grand Theft Auto 6 trailer along with their respective botanical names. The tropical climate of Miami, Vice City’s real-world counterpart, has interesting ecology and, knowing Rockstar, it’ll have done its utmost to capture this aspect of the city in Grand Theft Auto 6.

The multiple species of tree present in the trailer are found in the Southeastern United States and/or subtropical climates. We can see evidence of the symbolistic arecacea family – the palm trees Miami is known for. There are also plenty of pine trees represented, such as the pinus elliotti (slash pine) and pinus palustris (longleaf pine). WarrantsAttention has also identified an acacia abyssinica which could grow in Florida but is primarily found in eastern Africa.
On the non-tree front, we have buxaceae (box) plants, justicia americana (American water-willow), digitaria sanguinalis (hairy crab grass) and much more. It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Rockstar has done its research regarding the flora of Miami, but when you lay out every plant the environment team has included – it really is quite impressive.
Pre-eminent botanist WarrantsAttention is also an amateur nephrologist, having made a similar post earlier this week about the different types of clouds included in the trailer. There is much less variance when it comes to clouds, but you have to hand it to them – they know their stratus from their cumulus.
Assuming they want to continue their categorisation of items included in the trailer, I think it would be particularly interesting to identify the real-world model of every car that appears. We know several cars will be returning from past games, such as the Vapid Chino and Grotti Furia. I’m sure discerning fans have already combed over every vehicle, but they may lack the keen eye of this jack-of-all-trades scientist.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is an upcoming title in the long-running series from Rockstar Games. Currently scheduled for a 2025 launch, details are few, although it appears to focus on a Bonnie-and-Clyde-like pair of characters.
