Fortnite Seems Poised to Make 2025 a Year of Nostalgia

Last year was a big one for Fortnite, as the game expanded to even greater horizons. Between the introduction of Chapter 6, the return of Fortnite OG as a permanent mode, and even the addition of life sim LEGO Fortnite Brick Life, Epic Games has brought Fortnite to new heights.

One of the most popular changes to come to Fortnite last year was Fortnite OG staking its claim as a permanent mode within the game. Formerly a limited-time event, the mode proved to be so popular that Fortnite OG will now stand alongside the base battle royale with its very own Ranked mode. Another popular mode brought to life in 2024 was Reload, and between these two options, Fortnite could be leaning heavily into nostalgia in the coming year, if a recent leak is to be believed.

Fortnite Brings Back Rare Superhero Skin After More Than a Year

Fortnite has finally brought a fan-favorite superhero skin back to the battle royale’s in-game shop, after being unavailable for over a year.

Fortnite Leaks Point to Even More Throwback Content in 2025

In a Fortnite survey spotted by X user 0xPaarth, Fortnite‘s Reload mode could be getting a diverse roster of past maps and biomes added. Of course, such claims need to be taken with a grain of salt until they are officially confirmed by Epic Games, but it’s definitely an intriguing rumor. If these claims turn out to be true, then the popularity of Fortnite OG combined with the potential return of old maps in Reload could mark the start of an incredibly fun year for fans of some of Fortnite‘s older features.

Claimed Maps and Biomes That Could Come to Fortnite Reload

  • Chapters 1–5 maps
  • Chapter 6 themed
  • Urban locations
  • Jungle biome

These potential additions to Reload have yet to be made official, but if true, they will be incredibly exciting. Fortnite OG has been one of the best ways to enjoy old Fortnite content, but Reload could be poised to bring even more nostalgic moments to life through these various maps.

Although many of the updates that come to Fortnite are meant to improve the game, there are long-gone features that a good portion of players miss. For example, there was a recent discussion among fans on Reddit about the desire to bring the “In-Game Shop and Locker” button back to the UI. The post in question currently has around 3.8k upvotes at this time, so it’s a strong example of old features that have been missed by certain long-time players.

Reload splits up 40 players into 10 squads. As long as one teammate is alive on the island, players can respawn after elimination.

Fortnite Has High Expectations to Meet in the New Year

The world may only be a handful of days into 2025, but Fortnite already has a lot of expectations to live up to. Thanks to the onslaught of great content Fortnite brought players last year, there’s no telling what is in store for 2025. One of the more exciting confirmed additions to Fortnite is the impending arrival of Godzilla. Although currently part of the battle pass, the iconic movie monster has yet to be unlockable. As its launch day draws closer, the Godzilla skin sets the tone for a year hopefully filled with even more high-profile crossovers.

Godzilla will be available in Fortnite on January 17. As part of the battle pass, players can expect special Godzilla-related quests that will need to be completed in order to unlock the skin.

It has yet to be revealed if Reload will feature some of Fortnite‘s past maps, but it’s not impossible. With Epic Games clearly leaning into a balance of new and old with Fortnite as of late, it wouldn’t be too out of character to bring back past maps and biomes. Of course, only time will tell, but if Fortnite wants to compete with the previous year, then 2025 may be filled with unexpected surprises.
