What Will 2025’s Baldur’s Gate 3 Be?

Baldur’s Gate 3 took 2023 and 2024 by storm, but who will take the crown this year?

As reported by VideoGamer, it’s a fake app designed to trick fans into splashing out money in the hopes of playing their favourite game on the go, using official screenshots with a mobile UI hastily pasted on top to create an air of legitimacy.

An air of legitimacy that is immediately undercut by the one-star rating and developer. You can get Divinity – Original Sin 2 for iOS, and it’s listed by Larian Studios itself, not a third-party developer. Baldur’s Gate 3, however, has the suffix “Mobile Turuk”, and is published by “Dmytro Turuk”. Not suspicious at all.

It’s Not Technically Free-To-Play, Either

Fake Baldur's Gate 3 mobile listing on the iOS App Store.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is billed as a free-to-play app on iOS, unlike Divinity – Original Sin 2, which is sold for $24.99. So, how is it a scam? Well, once you download the game, you’re asked to pay $29.99 for a 30-day subscription to unlock access.

Even if you don’t purchase this subscription and see through all of the glaring red flags and decide to uninstall, the app’s terms of service reveal that it collects private user data such as your IP address.

If you really want to try Baldur’s Gate 3 on mobile, the best way right now is Xbox streaming. In November, Microsoft announced that Game Pass subscribers can now stream 50 games from their own library, including Larian Studios’ hit RPG. You need a decent enough connection for it to work, but it’s better than a sketchy, fake app.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
