Acer Nitro Blaze 11 Handheld Console Announced, Features Detachable Controllers

It’s only the first day of CES 2025 and we’ve already seen a bunch of new tech on the show floors. From laptops and graphic cards, to smart refrigerators and even smart toilets, the tech showcase always has something neat that appeals to everyone. However, the video game segment is what often steals the show.

The Switch 2 Should Not Rely On Ports

The biggest games on the Switch won’t be games we’ve already played.

Acer is looking to expand its foothold in the handheld gaming console market with the announcement of the Nitro Blaze 11 and Nitro Blaze 8. Although details about these new devices are scarce, except for what we’ve seen in the press release, the standout feature of the Nitro Blaze 11 is its huge size and Switch-like detachable controllers.

Named after the screen sizes, the Nitro Blaze 8 and 11 come with 8.8-inch or 10.95-inch sized 144 Hz WQXGA touch displays, respectively. While the 8-inch version is fairly standard, the images of the Nitro Blaze 11 reveal that it’s an absolute unit. So, while it is a handheld console, it really depends on your definition of portable.

The consoles feature AMD Ryzen 7 8840HS processors, 16 GB of LPDDR5X memory, and up to 2 TB storage, along with Radeon Super Resolution and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution for image quality. However, the main feature of the Nitro Blaze 11 is that the controllers are detachable, like that of the Nintendo Switch, and feature Hall Effect triggers and sticks to avoid drift.

Both devices will be available in the second quarter of 2025, with no precise launch date revealed as of yet. The Nitro Blaze 8 will cost $899, while the Nitro Blaze 11 will cost $1,099.

However, the handheld that we’re all really looking forward to is the Nintendo Switch 2. While there’s been no official word on the device, China-based accessory manufacturer Genki has vowed to “discuss any Switch 2 info” it has at this year’s CES. However, we’ve not heard anything yet.
