AMC’s The Walking Dead TV series may be done and dusted, but Robert Kirkman’s comics are still going strong. In a newly published deluxe edition of one of the original comics, Kirkman states that he initially had a new villain in mind but that they were cut from the series. Since 2010, the horror of The Walking Dead‘s post-apocalyptic vibes not only enthralled viewers but also haunted them to the core. Watching a group of survivors band together to take on the living dead proved to be a challenge as the show’s characters went through hell and back in order to make it out alive.

Although AMC’s The Walking Dead was about the deadly virus that turned humanity into skin-munching and bloodthirsty creatures, its main pull was the incredible coping skills of its many characters and what they had to do when faced with their harsh reality. Narrated over 177 episodes and eleven seasons, the series starred Norman Reedus, Andrew Lincoln, Melissa McBride, and many others, as they came up against interpersonal conflicts during the zombie apocalypse as well as showcasing some of the best villains to ever make it to TV.

Robert Kirkman Reveals Villain That Was Cut From the Series

The new deluxe edition of The Walking Dead comic, which was released on January 1st by Image Comics, is a colorized version of the original 2012 issue but this time, the series creator, Robert Kirkman, left notes in the back of the book in which he revealed that he once had the idea of introducing a brand-new villain called “The Contractor” but, for some reason, the character didn’t materialize. Kirkman didn’t give much insight into this mysterious character or what role they could have played, but he did say that he thought the name was “cool”, at least. “I don’t recall details about this particular villain. Cool name.” wrote the comic book writer, screenwriter, and producer.

Kirkman also hinted at the name of another potential villain that might end up being included in the series at some point. “Kind of [a] shame it never made it into the book. One day I’ll have to tell everyone about ‘The Gardener.’” With a huge line-up of some of the most badass villains already in the franchise that includes the likes of The Governor, Negan, Shane, Alpha, and Jadis, it’s left up to the imagination of The Walking Dead fans to wonder how terrible and nasty could “The Contractor” have been.

On the topic of some of The Walking Dead‘s most awful villains, Jeffery Dean Morgan recently opened up about being reunited with his bat, Lucille, on the set of The Walking Dead: Dead City season two, and how he “freaked out” at the realization of how much he missed his “co-star.” Before season two of Dead City is released sometime in 2025, fans who missed its first season have a chance to catch it when it airs via Netflix on January 13.
