The Veilguard Players Want Sequel To Be Set In Qunari Lands

The following article contains major spoilers for Dragon Age: The Veilguard.

Summary

  • The Dragon Age community is already speculating on a setting for Dragon Age 5.
  • A popular choice is the Qunari-controlled islands of Par Vollen and Seheron.
  • There are also calls for moving beyond Thedas, something that BioWare also seems to be angling for.

The dust has only settled on Dragon Age: The Veilguard, but the community has already begun speculating on potential settings for a future Dragon Age game. BioWare is currently working on Mass Effect 5, which is almost certainly a few years from release. However, if BioWare were to create another Dragon Age game after Mass Effect 5, then it would likely arrive faster than The Veilguard did, given the latter’s troubled development cycle.

A Reddit thread by Hump-Daddy (calm down Iron Bull) quizzed the community on where they would like to see the next Dragon Age take place. As you’d expect, there are a variety of answers. A popular response is that people want a future game to be set on the islands controlled by the Qunari, Par Vollen and Seheron.

Island Hopping

Dragon Age 2 Should Have Given You A Qunari Companion

“Par Vollen and Seheron would make a lot of sense. And while I did enjoy hopping around to different locations in Veilguard, I would kinda like the next game to focus more on one of two big locations (or multiple maps that take place in one or two bigger locations),” comments KorvoLonavo.

Par Vollen is an island north of Rivain, originally inhabited by tribes isolated from the rest of Thedas. A brief Qunari invasion conquered the island, assimilating the tribesmen into the Qun without much bloodshed. Seheron is a larger island north of Tevinter – the site of constant warfare between the Imperium and the Qunari since the horned race’s arrival to Thedas.

“Start on Seheron, then cross the Amaranthine Ocean headed east to confront the Executors, retracing the path of both humanity’s initial migration to Thedas, as well as the Qunari First Expedition,” writes Chieroscuro. The Executors are a shadowy group from “across the sea” that are revealed to be responsible for many seismic historical events in Thedas, like Loghain’s betrayal at Ostagar and Bartrand Tethras’ discovery of the lyrium idol. The secret ending of The Veilguard implies the Executors are Dragon Age’s next existential threat.

Other suggestions include Tevinter (beyond Minrathous), the lands west of Orlais, continents beyond Thedas and the Deep Roads. Regardless of which direction BioWare chooses to pursue, we’ll likely have to wait several years to find out.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard is the long-awaited fourth game in the fantasy RPG series from BioWare formerly known as Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. A direct sequel to Inquisition, it focuses on red lyrium and Solas, the aforementioned Dread Wolf.
