The Fate Of The Big 3 Clans At The End Of JJK

The Fate Of The Big 3 Clans At The End Of JJK

This article contains spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue.

Summary

  • The Zenin Clan met a shocking fate, eradicated by Maki Zenin’s impeccable strength and determination.
  • The fate of the Kamo Clan was sealed with Kenjaku’s demise, leaving its existence in question at the end of JJK.
  • The Gojo Clan remains standing with Yuta Okkotsu as the acting head, facing an uncertain future following Gojo’s death.

Jujutsu Kaisen introduced quite an exciting concept of the Big Three Families in the story. As evident from the name, these families were some of the most prominent ones in Japan and held high positions within the Jujutsu Society. Usually, the big three families of JJK held quite a lot of power, and at the same time, political influence as well. At the same time, some of the strongest sorcerers in the world of JJK hailed from the big three families.

Nobara has a lot of potential in JJK. Here’s how she could match the levels of Megumi and Yuji.

Throughout the run of JJK, the Big Three Families underwent changes, and it is safe to say that the fate of some of them was quite shocking to all the fans of the series.

The Fate Of The Zenin Clan

  • Led By: Naobito Zenin
  • Current Fate: Eradicated

Quite easily, the family that met the worst fate in JJK was the Zenin family. However, it cannot be said that this fate wasn’t entirely deserved. The Zenin family was utterly annihilated in Jujutsu Kaisen, and all this was the doing of a single person, namely, Maki Zenin. Maki was always going to be one of the strongest characters at the end of the series, and at some point. Initially, she wanted to use this strength of hers to change the family’s ways, but she realized that the system that she was trying to change, was too rooted in its ways to actually ever undergo any change.

I will erase it all! – Maki

Maki decided to instead cut all ties with this family, going on an annihilation spree, especially after awakening her true powers, following the sacrifice of her sister. When Maki was fully awakened, she decided to annihilate the entire clan and liberate herself, breaking free of all curses. Maki succeeded in doing so because her strength was absolutely impeccable, such that no one could even dare to pose a challenge to her. Maki reached levels similar to Toji, and later down the line, possibly even went on to surpass him.

The Zenin Family actually met its end long before the conclusion of the series. Halfway through the story, this family did not exist anymore, but there are certainly remnants. Maki herself is one such character, and fans know that Megumi exists as well. At the same time, it is made clear that at the end of the series, Maki actually has two grandchildren, both of whom carry the blood of the Zenin Clan. The clan itself, however, is utterly finished and all that exists are a select few individuals who likely don’t even associate with this ghost of a clan anymore.

The Fates Of The Gojo And The Kamo Clan

The Gojo And Kamo Clans Changed Completely

With the Zenin Clan out of the way, fans then look at the other two clans that exist in the world of JJK, and they are the Gojo and the Kamo Clan. When it comes to the latter, fans truly don’t know much, because the author never really elaborated upon it in the story. What the fans do now is that they held quite a lot of influence in Japan, and that this influence was used by certain individuals for their own good. At the beginning of the series, Noritoshi Kamo was revealed to be the successor of the clan, and he was certainly building himself up to fulfill this role. However, things did not go in that direction as he was removed from the position of heir around the midpoint of the story.

It was at this point that his importance started to dwindle. He helped Yuji gain control over blood manipulation, but beyond that, his contribution to Shinjuku Showdown was absolutely nonexistent. He ended up taking his family abroad, and that essentially marked the end of the heir of the Kamo Clan.

Kenjaku was the last known leader of the Kamo Clan, and he held his position right up until the moment he died. But, with Yuta chopping his head off, Kenjaku was removed from the path as well, which essentially meant that the Kamo Clan, in its definition, was utterly destroyed at the end of JJK.

Jujutsu Kaisen: How Adult Yuta Reached Gojo’s Level, Explained

Yuta is the strongest sorcerer alive in JJK. He might have reached the level of Gojo.

Of course, there can still be members of the Kamo Clan that fans have not seen or don’t know about, but, it cannot be conclusively said if this Clan actually exists, or, if it has collapsed upon itself, just like the Zenin Clan. If there are any individuals of the Kamo Clan that are still there to run it, fans have not seen them yet and the author doesn’t deem them important enough to show up in the story.

The Gojo Clan

Satoru Gojo fires Hollow Purple at 100% at Sukuna.

Meanwhile, the Gojo clan suffered quite a bit as well. Much of the strength of the Gojo clan, as well as their political power, stemmed from the singular fact that they had Satoru as the strongest modern sorcerer and the only equivalent of Sukuna. This clan enjoyed quite a lot of power because of him. But, Gojo ended up dying in the Shinjuku Showdown Arc. Because of this, the Gojo clan lost a significant portion of its powers. It was entirely possible that with Gojo’s death, the clan would collapse upon itself as well.

Year 2035, Panda was kept at the storage facility of the Gojo Family, run by the acting head Yuta Okkotsu. – Narrator

Logically speaking, that is exactly what should have happened. However, it was revealed that by the year 2035, the Gojo Clan had taken a rather interesting direction. At some point in time, Yuta, who was Gojo’s very own protege, ended up becoming the acting head of the Clan. This is likely down to the blood connection he shares with Gojo, and the fact that he was Gojo’s closest underling. The Gojo family still existed around the year 2035. In fact, even in the year 2080, its premises were seen completely intact. This essentially means that out of the Big Three Families, The Gojo Family was the one that was left standing, with Yuta at the helm. Given that Yuta is still alive, it is highly likely that he still runs the Gojo clan, despite having been only an acting head. After Yuta dies, what exactly will happen to this clan remains unknown, and this is largely down to the fact that fans don’t know who Yuta’s children truly are.

Is There Any Future For The Big 3 Families In JJK?

Only The Gojo Family Truly Matters

Given that two of the Big Three Families are now entirely out of the way, JJK having any future for them is not feasible. Of course, the Gojo Clan is the only one who can be involved more in the story, and this can be done through the character of Yuta Okkotsu, his children, and of course, his grandchildren as well.

Still, the author would need to draw a very exciting storyline around these characters if he intends to elaborate upon the Gojo Family. For now, there is absolutely no indication of the fact that Gege wants to continue Jujutsu Kaisen. As he mentioned previously, the story is well and truly over, which means that the Gojo Family is officially out of the equation as well.

Jujutsu Kaisen’s Epilogue was released with its Final Volume. JJK’s Final volume is out in Japan on December 25, 2024. The English version of the Volume will be published at some point in 2025.
