Despite early controversy surrounding the main character’s clothing choice, Stellar Blade saw incredible success on the PS5 following its April 2024 release. Boasting an average score of 82 on OpenCritic and earning several awards and nominations, the game continues to be applauded for its fast-paced combat, art direction, and soundtrack. Nier creator Yoko Taro has even gone on record to call the Shift Up title “better than NieR: Automata,” something Stellar Blade‘s director has vehemently denied. The hardworking staff behind the title were recently recognized for their efforts, taking home some impressive bonuses to celebrate the title’s ongoing success.

Shift Up recently took to Twitter to share a heartwarming video of its staff picking up complimentary PlayStation 5 Pros. The Korean studio employs just over 300 employees, all of whom snagged one of Sony’s updated consoles as an end-of-year bonus for their hard work. In addition, all staff members will receive a bonus of around $3,400. According to a representative of the company, the generous bonuses were meant to encourage the company’s employees going forward. In July 2024, it was announced that Shift Up had raised $320 million on South Korea’s stock market prior to its first day of trading, making it the second-largest public offering in the country for the year.

As the game continues to pull in players, recent collaborations have continued to make headlines, with November 2024’s Stellar Blade‘s Nier: Automata DLC treating players to new items and costumes. In late December, it was announced that Stellar Blade would be collaborating with Goddess of Victory: Nikke in the future, though no timeline or concrete details were provided. A holiday-themed event was added to the title in mid-December, adding decorations to the city of Xion along with new musical tracks and costumes for Eve and Adam.

Released as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade will finally get a PC port in 2025, though no release window has been provided. Shift Up revealed that it was considering a PC version of the game in June 2024, with the studio anticipating that Stellar Blade will do exceedingly well on the platform. The game sold one million units on the PS5 within its first two months.
