Pokemon TCG Pocket Fans Request Overhaul of One Feature

Summary

  • Players critique Pokemon TCG Pocket’s Community Showcase for displaying cards in a visually unappealing way.
  • The Community Showcase features cards alongside sleeves, but some players find the presentation lackluster.
  • There are no immediate plans for updates to the Community Showcase, but upcoming social features will include virtual card trading.

Though the game has seen major success since launch, avid fans of Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket have pointed out some issues they have with one of its core features, the Community Showcase mechanic. Players have stated that, despite the feature being a positive inclusion, the way the Community Showcase cards are displayed in Pokemon TCG Pocket leaves a lot of empty space, making it less visually appealing.

Simulating the real-life rules and mechanics from the physical Pokemon trading card game, Pokemon TCG Pocket puts the act of opening booster packs and collecting and battling with cards into a free-to-play mobile experience. The title is mostly feature-complete when compared to its physical counterpart, offering the ability to let players battle each other and show off their collected cards in a public format.

However, while the Community Showcase is a welcome feature among the Pokemon TCG Pocket community, many players are taking issue with how the showcases appear visually, taking to Reddit to air their grievances. In a thread on the game’s official subreddit, user atomicblue made a post commenting on the fact that cards in the Community Showcase are shown as small icons next to their chosen sleeves, rather than prominently displayed inside them.

Instead of simply showing off their cards on their own, the Community Showcase feature in Pokemon TCG Pocket lets players display them with a variety of card sleeves that show off original Pokemon art as a frame for each card. Players can earn tokens that are redeemable in the game’s virtual store, which sells in-game upgrades, based on how many “likes” they get from other players on the cards they choose to display.

According to players in the comments on the Reddit thread, however, the fact that the cards appear as a small icon in the corner of the sleeves rather than appearing as if they are inside them has left many feeling that the feature is a lackluster inclusion. Some blamed Pokemon TCG Pocket developer DeNA for allegedly cutting corners when making the feature, while others argued that the issue stemmed from a desire to encourage players to view each display more intently.

As of right now, there do not appear to be any plans to update the feature or improve on some of the criticisms brought up by fans in regard to it, but there are more social features on the way soon. Specifically, Pokemon TCG Pocket players will soon be able to trade cards with each other virtually in an upcoming post-launch update to the game’s social mechanics.
