To celebrate, PlatinumGames has announced the “Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year,” which the legendary developer says will have “various announcements”.

In a blog post on its website, PlatinumGames reminisces about the impact Bayonetta had on the studio. It said, “In 2009, we were able to deliver a brand-new action experience with the release of Bayonetta, which is a title that we are still very proud of to this day.”

The post continues with the Japanese developer teasing that fans will find out more about the future of the series this year, saying:

“Bayonetta was released in Japan on October 29, 2009, and worldwide in January 2010. Starting from today, we would like to celebrate this momentous occasion with everyone around the world – and officially kick off our special “Bayonetta 15th Anniversary Year” lasting for one full year. Keep an eye on our social media channels and this page to stay up to date on the various announcements we have planned!”

In 2022, Bayonetta creator Hideki Kamiya stated that he couldn’t “conceive the Bayonetta series ever ending.” However, since that statement, the game director has gone on to leave PlatinumGames, joining Clovers to work on the recently-announced Okami sequel. Kamiya will once again direct the title, having been director of the 2006 original.

Despite losing Kamiya, it seems unlikely that Platinum would ever let the Bayonetta series die, something the legendary creator even said himself. Bayonetta 3 launched to a great critical and commercial reception, sitting around 85 on OpenCritic and becoming the ninth-best-selling game of 2022. Only time will tell if we’re months away from the announcement of Bayonetta 4.
