Summary
- Just six days into 2025, Baldur’s Gate 3 has hit a peak player count of over 120,000.
- That’s a ten percent increase from December, in which it rejoined Steam’s top ten best performing games.
- It is currently surpassing Call of Duty, Helldivers 2, and Elden Ring.
Larian Studios revealed back in November that Baldur’s Gate 3 was doing even better in 2024 than it was in 2023 when it first left early access. That hot streak shows no signs of slowing down, as it has already hit a peak of 120,000 players just six days into 2025.
It’s a hugely impressive feat for a (mostly) single-player cRPG to be pulling these kinds of numbers in its third year. It’s already up ten percent from December, which saw a 3.5 percent increase from November. With one last “major” update due this year, Baldur’s Gate 3 will likely only continue to climb the ranks.
Ahead of Christmas, Baldur’s Gate 3 even broke back into Steam’s top ten, and it hasn’t dropped too much in the weeks since. It’s currently number 19 in the top sellers, with 49,000 players in-game as of writing (via SteamDB). On a Monday morning no less.
It’s Even Beating Call Of Duty, Helldivers 2, And Elden Ring
Impressively, Baldur’s Gate 3 has a higher 24-hour peak on Steam than even Call of Duty, which just saw the release of Black Ops 6. It’s also ahead of the incredibly popular Helldivers 2, and the best-selling Soulsborne game of all time, Elden Ring.

Baldur’s Gate 3 took 2023 and 2024 by storm, but who will take the crown this year?
Right now, it holds the 14th spot in Steam’s most played games, just shy of Stardew Valley and Wallpaper Engine. To break the top ten, it would need another 80,000 players to dethrone Palworld and GTA 5 — maybe with that last patch, eh?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is the long-awaited next chapter in the Dungeons & Dragons-based series of RPGs. Developed by Divinity creator Larian Studios, it puts you in the middle of a mind flayer invasion of Faerûn, over a century after the events of its predecessor.
