What to Expect From Soulslike Games in 2025

Soulslike games have been on the rise for quite some time now, and 2025 is shaping up to be one of the genre’s biggest years yet. Between ongoing franchises and newcomers alike, there is no shortage of major releases to look out for. If even half of these titles live up to their promise, fans of the Soulslike genre will be well-fed indeed.

Many of the upcoming games are not attached to any existing franchise, and carry with them plenty of other reasons to be excited. Rumors have continued to circle around Lies of P 2, although the game rearing its head this year remains little more than an optimistic possibility. Finally, the recent announcement of Elden Ring Nightreign has changed everything for Soulslike games in 2025.

Everything Soulslike Fans Should Look Out For in 2025

Elden Ring: Nightreign Could Dominate the Soulslike Genre in 2025

Elden Ring Nightreign was revealed out of the blue during The Game Awards 2024, and is currently scheduled for release in 2025. An official release date is the first thing one can expect, with other updates sure to follow. The game is novel for a number of reasons, chief among them being that FromSoftware very rarely chooses to tread the same ground twice. While Shadow of the Erdtree was impressively large for a DLC release, Nightreign brings with it the promise of a full-scale sequel to Elden Ring.

Developers have insisted that Elden Ring Nightreign will be a standalone game, which is itself a very interesting approach to take with a “sequel.” Likewise, the game seems very experimental in general. It’s impossible to tell if some of these creative risks will be received well or not, but it is certain to draw a lot of attention either way.

Barring any kind of delay, Elden Ring Nightreign will likely be the biggest Soulslike release of the year. Before this titanic release, fans will have the opportunity to play a beta version of the game. This will be a huge event in its own right and may go a long way in shaping opinion on the final product.

Lies of P 2 is Still Up in the Air

There still isn’t much beyond scarce rumors to work off of, but Lies of P 2‘s development is worth discussing simply for the game’s name recognition alone. The first game was a smash hit when it was released back in 2023, and has been approaching household name status in the Soulslike genre ever since. This year is already very saturated, which leaves Lies of P 2 with two possibilities.

On the one hand, developers could remain dormant and allow the storm to blow over. On the other, they could leap into the fray, and reveal whatever it may be that would set Lies of P 2 apart from other Soulslike games. Regardless, it would be a safe bet to not expect the game to release in 2025, since the development of the first game took three years. However, that doesn’t mean that fans won’t receive any further news, such as an official release date or story details and the like.

2025 is Brimming with Competition for New Soulslike Games

Although not all are from such an established background, there are plenty of Soulslike games that are poised to compete this year. From The Relic: First Guardian to The First Berserker: Khazan, there are about a half dozen titles that have all caught the eyes of fans. However, two in particular appear to be rising above the pack.

Soulframe currently stands the best chance at garnering the most attention. Soulframe is being developed by Digital Extremes, the same studio behind Warframe, and this fact has already given the game plenty of positive press. By contrast, Wuchang: Fallen Feathers was the subject of a slight controversy upon its reveal. However, more recent trailers have done a lot to spin public opinion right around, which has turned it into a formidable competitor after all.

Thanks to developers big and small alike, 2025 is gearing up to be a huge year for Soulslike games. Elden Ring: Nightreign has the biggest legacy behind it, while Lies of P 2 has a great deal of anticipation hanging over its head. Best of all, there are plenty of other titles for any fans looking to delve deeper into the genre.
