There are many things to do in The Sims 4, although at some points, it can feel a little repetitive. You can do a lot in live mode, such as stirring up drama in random households or doing a generational challenge. But there is only so much your Sims can handle at once, so maybe it’s time to give them a break and a few new lots to explore.
Alternatively, you can build something for your Sims to hang out in and it doesn’t have to be another house. There are options available to build community lots. So if you were looking for ideas, here are a few things to build in The Sims 4 that aren’t houses.
1
Greenhouse
Move The Gardening Inside
If you want to add something a little fancy to your Sims residence, you could build a little greenhouse in your Sims’ backyard. It would be a cute little add-on for any Sim who enjoys gardening or if you are trying to make a quick buck on a hobby.
It’s a quick and easy project if you want to start small, but there are all sorts of little clutter you could add to a greenhouse for ambiance. Now your Sim can finally grow a cowplant in peace to eat those pesky Sims who enter your house to play on your computer.
2
Castle
Live Out The Royal Dreams
If you want to create something spectacular to stand out from all the other lots, build a castle! There are a lot of good off-the-grid options if you have the Cottage Living pack if you want to really challenge yourself.
Or maybe you want to create ruins of a castle, something that was once lived in but has since been abandoned and long forgotten. Once you have decided on a route, you can either make a royal Sim family to live there or make it into a vacation rental spot.
3
Prison
Lock Up Those Pesky Sims
If you want something to do about some of the more unruly or pesky Sims, it’s time to build a spot just for them. And that spot would be a prison. Without mods, you can place up to eight Sims in a residential lot, so choose carefully.
You can set this prison up like a dorm with a couple of bunk beds, or each Sim can have their own individual room with their own activities to make some profit while they are imprisoned. It may not be too practical, but it makes for some good drama or a good story.
A Place For Your Sims To Hang Out
A community center would be another great place for Sims to get together outside the typical community lots that come in the different worlds. You could also choose to make the lot a teen center to give a place for teens to hang out at.
There’s a lot you could add inside the community center: a mini gym, an area to do crafts, or a performance area. Or you could make it one big, comfortable living area for Sims to hang out in. The choice is yours!

Cemetery And Church
A Place To Mourn
With the new Life and Death expansion pack, creating a cemetery has become way easier. With the new expansion pack, all you have to do is make sure to assign the lot as a cemetery and start building a cemetery.

You can still build a cemetery if you do not have Life and Death, but you may want to add something else onto the lot, like a church or a mausoleum. It would be a perfect little spot to allow your Sims to mourn their lost ones or a place for them to hang out.
6
Bathhouse
Come In And Relax
A bathhouse is basically a general place where people can bathe and practice other hygiene. It could be as simple as creating a building and placing a couple of rooms with all the basic bathroom utilities, but you could also create a fancier kind of bathhouse.
In some areas, bathhouses can practically be spas, with medicated baths, saunas, and even a steam room. So, why not go all out and create a mini spa for your Sims so they can relax after a long day of being a Sim?
7
Laundromat
Get Those Clothes Clean
If you have the Laundry Day Stuff pack, you could build a laundromat. While it doesn’t sound very glamorous, it’s definitely something to build to make your Sims world a little more realistic.
All you would have to do is create a basic building and build a line of washers and dryers and add some clutter here and there. It might be a little basic, but who’s to say there isn’t a side business in the backroom of making candles or cross-stitching?
8
Public Pool
Pool Day
A public pool could be inside or outside, but if you have the Seasons expansion pack, an indoor pool may be more ideal for your game. It would be a fun place for your Sims to go get some exercise and you won’t have to try to make room for a pool inside your Sims’ home!
Once again, it doesn’t have to be anything fancy, but it definitely could be since it’s a community lot. You could add a little kiddy pool area or a slip-n-slide, add some vending machines around and the whole family can come and enjoy themselves.
9
Event Center
No More Dirty Dishes
If you’re tired of always hosting events because there isn’t anywhere better to have them, why not make an event center? You can either customize one for each kind of event available to be had or have one general building for it all.
You would no longer have to worry about the massive mess in your Sims’ house. With the event center, you could add in the necessary amenities needed, like a stove, the stereo, and everything else that fills the event bar to get a gold medal each time.
