One Leaked Marvel Rivals Character Could Give Jeff a Real Run for His Money

Marvel Rivals has done a great job of introducing players to some of Marvel’s deeper cuts with its diverse hero roster, and one character has become a clear fan favorite. Jeff the Land Shark was relatively unknown before joining the Marvel Rivals roster but has quickly become a star among players thanks to his cute mannerisms and fun gameplay. However, Jeff could see some competition for the spot of Marvel Rivals‘ beloved mascot if one upcoming hero leak is true.

There have been several characters leaked to be coming to Marvel Rivals in the future, with The Fantastic Four recently confirmed to be joining at the start of Season 1 after being leaked prior to the game’s launch. Other leaked Marvel Rivals characters include Ultron, Deadpool, Captain Marvel, and Jean Grey, all of whom could bring interesting new gameplay mechanics to the hero shooter. However, the addition of Hit-Monkey may be the most exciting among the leaked characters as another somewhat obscure character with a lot of potential to charm players, much like Jeff the Land Shark.

Marvel Rivals taps into a niche character type with Jeff the Land Shark and there’s no reason for it to quit while it’s ahead with cute animal Heroes.

Marvel Rivals’ Leaked Hit-Monkey Could Be a New Fan-Favorite Hero

Hit-Monkey is Another Obscure Animal Hero that Deserves More Recognition

The origin story of Hit-Monkey involves a group of macaques living in Japan taking in a wounded assassin from the snowy mountain region they lived in. As the assassin recovered, one monkey began to study the assassin’s movements as he honed his assassination skills. After the clan of monkeys was slain by soldiers looking for the assassin, Hit-Monkey used the skills learned from the assassin to set out on a quest for vengeance.

Hit-Monkey also received an animated TV series in 2021.

The spirit of the assassin that Hit-Monkey studied returned to guide his path of revenge, along which Hit-Monkey encountered Marvel characters like Bullseye, Deadpool, and even joined the Howling Commandos at one point. Hit-Monkey’s martial arts prowess and deadly accuracy with the two handguns he wields could form the basis for an interesting kit in Marvel Rivals, but could also add to his appeal as a character as well. An underrated part of Hit-Monkey’s abilities is the fact that being a macaque allows him to remain undetected since the idea of a monkey being a hitman is too ridiculous to be believable.

Hit-Monkey and Jeff Could Vie for Marvel Rivals Fans’ Attention

Hit-Monkey and Jeff the Land Shark share a lot of similarities that could put both characters at the top of Marvel Rivals fans’ list of favorites. Aside from being relatively unknown characters in the Marvel universe, both Jeff and Hit-Monkey’s status as animals already earns them some appeal among animal lovers. With Jeff already becoming infamous for his entertaining kit that allows him to swallow enemies and spit them off the side of a map, Hit-Monkey may need a similar gimmick if he hopes to stand out in the minds of players.

Luckily, there are a variety of ways Marvel Rivals could design Hit-Monkey to make him a favorite among the game’s roster. With Hit-Monkey being on the smaller side, having him be similar in stature to Marvel Rivals‘ Rocket Raccoon but with a high degree of mobility thanks to his primate acrobatics and martial arts training could make the hero a fun character to play, while an annoying one to play against. Giving Hit-Monkey an ult similar to Reaper’s Death Blossom in Overwatch 2 would also create the potential for satisfying team wipes, potentially putting Hit-Monkey plays at the same level of infamy as Jeff’s It’s Jeff! skill. Combining a cute animal character with a fun kit could be the recipe for Hit-Monkey’s success in Marvel Rivals.
