While still formidable in their own right, some fighters are often ranked among the less powerful participants in the Kengan tournament.
Now Yabako Sandrovich, creator of Kengan Ashura, is working on a new manga series. The information came from a video of a comic award in which Sandrovich is part of the jury. A text that appears on-screen reveals that Sandrovich would have later a meeting about a new series. Later, the camera operator asks him about the new work, and he confirms he is working on something.

Kengan Ashura and Kengan Omega
Kengan Ashura was serialized in Shogakukan’s Ura Sunday magazine and Manga ONE platform from 2012 to 2018, and ended with 27 volumes. It was followed by Kengan Omega, in serialization since 2019 (with 22 volumes so far). Both manga are written by Sandrovich and illustrated by Daromeon. Kengan Ashura has been adapted into a 52-episode anime.
The story takes place in contemporary Japan. Wealthy business owners, CEOS, and merchants make decisions based on the results of secret gladiator battles, called Kengan matches. They hire wrestlers to fight under their names, and these battles, which haven taken place for centuries, usually involve high stakes for all the parties. In this scenario, average salaryman Kazuo Yamashita ends up managing Tokita Ohma, a new fighter who represents the Nogi Group, where Yamashita works as a regular employee.
Kengan Omega takes place two years after the events of Kengan Ashura, when a man called Narushima Kouga wants to join the Kengan matches and is also looking for Ohma.
Kengan VS Baki Crossover Movie
Since the stories have similar themes, Kengan Ashura fans usually are also Baki fans. Probably seeing a huge intersection between stories and fans, a crossover movie, titled Baki Hanma VS Kengan Ashura, was released in 2024, featuring battles between several characters from both manga (despite everything, fans were not expecting this to ever happen). Unfortunately, reception has been generally mixed.
Kengan Ashura is licensed in English by Comikey. The anime adaptation is available on Netflix, alongside the crossover movie.
