How To Get The Type-40 Sword In NieR: Automata

The Type-40 Sword is a reward for completing the side quest “Find A Present”, the final quest in a small chain of quests revolving around Operator 6O. To unlock this quest and get the sword, you’ll need to complete two other side quests, here’s everything you’ll need to do in order to trigger each side quest, including the chapters needed to jump to if you’re using Chapter Select.

  • After fighting Adam and Eve at the end of Chapter 5, you’ll get a call from Operator 6O.
  • This message begins “Investigating Communications” which is missable so complete it right away.
  • Progress the main story and complete the next chapter and the events of the Forest Castle (chapter 6), beginning Chapter 7.
  • After talking to Pascal and asking about A2, wander around the city ruins to get another call from Operator 6O, who tells you to check your inbox at an access point to begin the quest “Terminal Repairs“.
  • On your way back to the Resistance Camp continuing Chapter 7, you’ll get a final call where Operator 6O talks about flowers and sends you another message in your inbox.
  • Interact with the message to begin “Find a Present“.
  • Completing “Find a Present” will have the Type-40 Sword sent to your inbox as a reward.

At level 1, the Type-40 Sword has a 5-hit combo with light attacks and a 3-hit combo with heavy attacks. The weapon can be upgraded to level 4 to increase its light attack combo to 7 hits, while also getting a boost when stunning enemies, you’ll just need some Titanium Alloy to get through all the upgrades.
