Exciting battles, compelling character arcs, brilliant designs – Naruto really does have it all, but where it arguably shines most is its villains. No villain in Naruto or Naruto Shippuden wants to destroy the world just because they can. Each of them has a very specific ideology they see as the best way to reach a peaceful world, and in trying to convey these ideas, the villains have let out quite a few impactful lines that have stuck with many fans since they were first said in the story.

While some of these are thought-provoking comments to give fans some food for thought, others are simply backhanded smug comments thrown out to try and belittle an opponent. Obito wouldn’t become the main villain of the series until near the end of Shippuden, but up to that point, he had been lurking behind the scenes and masking his identity. This quote sums up his shifty attics perfectly, as Obito can act like a silly goofball of the Akatsuki one minute, and then a merciless killer the next.

It’s a clear reminder of the shroud of mystery that surrounded this masked figure for much of the series, and also a glimpse into the twisted persona Obito had made for himself to handle the guilt and trauma of his past.

Unlike most of his Akatsuki comrades, Deidara isn’t exactly a silent and stoic type. Instead, he’s a loud and brash artist who always jumps on the opportunity to show off his explosive clay models to anyone who will dare take him on. This particular line is his go-to catchphrase, which he will often utter when unleashing one of his bigger bombs, such as his two giant birds.

The most memorable moments featuring this line were when Deidara blew an entire forest to smithereens and the destruction of the Hidden Stone Village. Though Orochimaru does eventually become a temporary ally with the Shinobi, for much of the series, he is a malicious antagonist who is always lurking in the shadows. It would therefore come as a surprise when it’s revealed that Orochimaru was once one of the three Legendary Sannin, and worked alongside Tsunade and the late Jiraiya, the latter of which he references with this oddly solemn quote.

In a rare moment of reflection, Orochimaru acknowledges how much he’s changed since the trio’s days as a unit while admitting that Jiraiya never strayed from his own path. The first time Itachi shows up in the flesh, though, he easily strangles Sasuke and mocks him for being “weak,” citing his lack of hatred as the reason why.

This single line added so much intrigue to this family feud, painting a new picture of the dynamic where Itachi actually wanted Sasuke to grow through hatred as if he was training him from a distance. After massacring the entire Uchiha clan, Itachi instantly made himself Sasuke’s sworn enemy, but once the younger brother finally obtained enough power to challenge Itachi, he managed to finally score a win. However, despite the hatred Sasuke held, Itachi would give a rather unexpected send-off after the battle when telling Sasuke that he will “always” love him.

This was the beginning of the gradual revelation of Itachi’s true motives, and how he actually exterminated the Uchiha in order to prevent another war from breaking out, but couldn’t kill his beloved brother. Though Itachi put up a mysterious persona for much of the series, in his final moments, he showed vulnerability and expressed what he truly felt about Sasuke to his face.

As he says here, while there’s often going to be some light of hope, the darkness always lingers, and for victors to even exist, those who fall in battle must perish to prove the strength of others.

Of course, Madara’s antidote for this isn’t exactly all that appealing though, since it would involve enslaving the entire world to prevent people from killing each other. Nonetheless, it’s a quote that gave fans a clear insight into Madara’s motives and greater plan, and a line that’s become a memorable gem from the series.

The Last Line Said Before Konoha Was Obliterated By Pain

Before Pain even reached the Hidden Leaf Village, he already demonstrated just how absurdly strong he was by taking down Jiraiya in a grizzly fashion, stabbing multiple blades in his own master’s back. However, before the people of Konoha could even begin to prepare, Pain appeared above the village and said these final words before annihilating Naruto’s home village.

Up to this point in the story, Pain had made his personal beliefs pretty clear, specifically his ideal world which involved dealing immense amounts of pain to try and teach the world what real suffering looks like.
