Fairy Tail is known for its fun and quirky cast of characters. While Natsu is the undisputed protagonist, Hiro Mashima made sure the supporting characters got plenty of love, giving them their own stories and standout moments.

10 Anime Games That Deserve A Sequel
Anime games sometimes get a bad rep, but these ones desperately need a second outing.
Fairy Tail 2 carries this spirit into the video game, allowing you to connect with the entire guild. Each playable character boasts unique abilities and skills, making them vital to your journey. True to the anime’s theme of the power of friendship, success in the game depends on utilizing the strengths of all the characters to triumph and save Fiore.
10
Gajeel Redfox
Iron Dragon Slayer
Gajeel is a powerhouse in Fairy Tail 2, built like a tank with high Defense and Attack stats but lacking in Speed. Most of his moves are iron-based, with a few non-elemental attacks for versatility. He’s naturally resistant to iron and demon attacks while being highly effective against air and light enemies. As you level up his passive skills, Gajeel unlocks the Iron Dragon’s Essence, which boosts his Attack and Defense stats while strengthening debuffs, making him a great partner in tougher fights.
He’s a go-to for many boss battles, but his slower speed can make regular encounters a bit tedious. Still, his tanky nature shines as a support character. Equip him with a Visibility Lacrima to increase his chances of being targeted by enemies, and he’ll act as a reliable shield for your squishier teammates.
9
Juvia Lockser
Water-Make Mage
Juvia is a versatile character, capable of both support and DPS roles. She learns Water Heal early, making her one of only two healers in the game. However, her high-damage skills don’t unlock until later, which is when she truly shines. Early on, Wendy is a more effective healer, but by the final chapters, Juvia becomes a powerhouse with abilities like Wings of Love and Water Slicer.
Most characters in the game have a single special Unison Raid pulled from the anime. Juvia, though, has two: one with Gray and the other with Lucy.
Juvia’s attacks are entirely water-elemental, making her highly effective against enemies weak to water but less adaptable against foes with different resistances. She performs best when equipped with Water-Element and Recovery Lacrimas, which enhance both her healing and attack power, turning her into a dual-purpose asset for your party.
8
Lucy Heartfilia
Celestial Wizard
Lucy is the first character you play in the game, serving as a summoner who uses Celestial Keys to call forth zodiac spirits to aid her in battle. As her abilities grow, she unlocks Celestial Forms, which temporarily grants her the power of a Celestial Spirit, complete with a flashy costume change.

15 Anime That Would Make Great Fighting Games
There is a severe lack of fighting games based on anime properties, so we decided to list 15 anime we think would make a great addition to the genre!
Lucy’s Link Attack gives you extra SP, which allows you to unleash strong attacks faster.
While Lucy starts as one of the weaker characters, especially compared to heavy hitters like Gray, Natsu, and Erza, she becomes a solid DPS unit as you unlock her Magic Origin. Her strength lies in her area-of-effect (AOE) attacks, making her highly effective against mobs. Though her attacks may lack the raw power of some teammates, her ability to chip away at multiple enemies at once allows others to focus on taking down the biggest threats.
7
Gray Fullbuster
Ice-Make Mage
Gray is an ice wizard who specializes in ice constructs, offering a balanced mix of single-target and area-of-effect attacks. Early in the game, his abilities like Ice Cannon are not only reliable but also help charge your Fairy Rank, increasing SP and unlocking Extreme Magic for your party.
While Gray makes a strong impression early on, many of his most powerful abilities are locked behind Ether Crystals, which you can’t access until mid-game. His true potential shines in the late game when you unlock his Devil Slayer Awakening. This transformation significantly boosts his stats and temporarily grants him access to devastatingly strong attacks, making him an essential powerhouse in the final chapters.
6
Erza Scarlet
Requip: The Knight Spatial Mage
Erza is a knight who specializes in summoning weapons and armor to adapt to any battle. Like Lucy, she is one of the rare characters with multi-elemental attacks, making her incredibly effective against Monster Kings and bosses that shift their elemental affinities mid-fight.
As a tank, Erza boasts high Defense and Attack stats, though her defense is slightly lower than Gajeel’s. However, she makes up for it with higher Speed, allowing her to act more frequently in battle. To maximize her potential, equip her with Defense Lacrima and Mighty Lacrima to enhance her durability and offensive power. This makes Erza an adaptable shield and a consistent force on the battlefield, no matter the challenge.
5
Natsu Dragneel
Fire Dragon Slayer
As Fairy Tail’s protagonist, Natsu’s battle progression closely mirrors his journey in the anime. He starts as a strong character but initially lags behind heavy hitters like Laxus or Erza. However, as the game progresses, Natsu evolves into a powerhouse DPS unit, especially after unlocking his two Awakening forms: Lightning Fire Dragon Mode and Fire Dragon King Mode. These forms not only supercharge his stats but also grant access to devastating new attacks.

Some anime transformations are beyond strong — these ones go above and beyond.
Natsu is a well-rounded character with balanced stats, making him effective in various situations. To maximize his potential, equip him with a Fire-Element Lacrima alongside an Attack or Mighty Lacrima to boost his offensive capabilities. Since he’s often at the forefront of intense boss battles, adding an Absorbency Lacrima can help sustain his HP, allowing you to focus on dishing out powerful attacks without worrying about healing as often.
4
Wendy Marvell
Wind Dragon Slayer
Wendy is the ultimate support character. While she has a few attack skills, they’re not nearly as powerful as those of other characters. However, her healing and support abilities more than make up for it. Wendy can single-handedly keep your team alive with spells like Heal and Sky Dragon Flower Wind. Beyond healing, she excels at clearing status ailments, buffing allies, and dispelling enemy buffs, making her indispensable in tough battles.
Despite her strengths, Wendy’s AI often tries to treat her as a DPS unit, which can make her less effective if left unchecked. To get the most out of her, place Wendy in the back wings of your party. This setup allows you to swap her in as needed to heal or buff, then trade her out for a stronger attacker when the situation calls for it.
3
Mirajane Strauss
Take Over: Satan Soul Mage
Mira’s magic is one of the most unique in Fairy Tail. She can take on the powers and appearances of creatures she knows, including her siblings, Sitri, and even Seilah from the Nine Demon Gates. These transformations give her immense dark, demonic power. While her abilities once made her question her humanity, Makarov and her Fairy Tail family helped her embrace her strength and find confidence in herself.
In Fairy Tail 2, Mira is a powerhouse attack unit. Most of her abilities are chain attacks, which not only deal high damage but also quickly build your Fairy Rank, giving you access to Extreme Magic more frequently. Pair her with an Absorption Lacrima, and those chain attacks can also provide solid HP recovery, making her an offensive force that’s tough to take down.
2
Laxus Dreyar
Lightning Dragon Slayer
Laxus is Master Makarov’s grandson and a formidable wizard. As a Second Generation Dragon Slayer, he was implanted with Dragon Lacrima as a child, granting him Dragon Slayer abilities. In Fairy Tail 2, Laxus boasts high Attack, HP, and Speed stats, making him a heavy hitter, though his Defense is on the weaker side. While he can deliver massive damage, you’ll need to keep an eye on his health to prevent him from being taken out too quickly.
To make the most of Laxus, pair him with tanky characters like Gajeel or Erza, equipped with a Visibility Lacrima. This setup allows your tanks to absorb damage while Laxus unleashes powerful attacks. Laxus is one of the strongest units in the game from the start, maintaining his status as a top-tier character throughout the story.
1
Gildarts Clive
Crush Mage
Gildarts is known as Fairy Tail’s strongest mage, and while he’s not around the guild hall often, he always shows up when his strength is needed. In Fairy Tail 2, Gildarts is the last character to join your party and becomes fully playable only in the post-game content.
Once Gildarts is in your party, you’ll have access to the rarest Ether Crystals, allowing you to fully unlock your characters’ Magic Origins.
Gildarts has the highest Attack and HP in the game, although his Defense still falls short compared to Gajeel. While his skill set is smaller than some other characters, he has access to some of the most powerful abilities in the game, though they require a lot of SP to use. Gildarts is most effective when you switch him into battle after building up your Fairy Rank gauge. Start the fight with lower-cost, high-impact attacks from characters like Natsu or Gray, and then unleash Gildarts’ devastating abilities once you’ve accumulated enough SP to wipe out enemies with ease.
