The Red Bull M.E.O. 2024BGMI National Finals, organized by Red Bull India and Skyesports, has become the most-watched tournament in the history of the Red Bull M.E.O. The tournament achieved a peak viewership of 124,934, according to Esports Charts.

Notably, this is the highest peak viewership ever recorded in the history of the Red Bull M.E.O. This represents a remarkable 239% increase compared to the previous edition in 2023, hosted by Nodwin Gaming, which peaked at 36,856 viewers

Changes in format and the three-day grand final have boosted the tournament’s viewership

The Red Bull M.E.O. India began with open qualifiers, where teams competed for 32 slots in the Pre-Quarterfinals, which featured 32 directly invited teams. The Pre-Quarterfinals took place from November 17 to 19.

From there, teams advanced to the Quarterfinals (November 20 to 22) and then the Semifinals (November 23 to 25), where 24 teams battled for 16 slots in the Grand Finals. The three-day Grand Finals were divided into two stages: an online phase (November 26 and 27) and a LAN event held at the Chennai Trade Center on December 8, 2024.

Shiva Nandy, the founder and CEO of Skyesports, the tournament’s operator, spoke to GamingonPhone about the sharp jump in viewers, attributing a variety of factors to the growth. This impressive growth in viewership can be attributed to a variety of factors,” said Nandy. “Firstly, the longer format this year ensured an open-for-all tournament with Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and a three-day Grand Final, offering increased opportunities for creating hype and developing storylines.”

Furthermore, there was increased out-of-game activity in the Red Bull M.E.O. 2024 which enabled story-building, hype creation, and leveraging of the players’ personalities to drive viewership. Shiva also added,

We leveraged Skyesports’ existing distribution on our social media platforms to further amplify the event with highlights and out-of-game interviews. The pre-Grand Finals Instagram impressions alone surpassed 4.5 million, contributing significantly to the increased viewership at the on-ground Grand Finals in Chennai.

Ultimately, Vasista Esports emerged as the champions and is set to receive an exclusive Red Bull Racing F1 experience in 2025.  The increase in viewership represents a larger trend in BGMI esports after the recently concluded Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series (BMPS), also organized by Skyespors, achieved a peak viewership of 493,000, per Esports Charts, making it the second most watched BGMI esports tournament in history after The Launch Party in 2021.
