Summary
- Kingdom Hearts fans are more than used to waiting a while for new games, Kingdom Hearts 4 has taken that to a new level.
- As of today, it’s been exactly 1,000 days since Kingdom Hearts 4 was announced on April 10, 2022.
- That’s nearly 300 days longer than the gap between Kingdom Hearts 3’s first and second trailers.
It’s now been exactly 1,000 days since Kingdom Hearts 4 was first announced with a reveal trailer during the 20th anniversary event on April 10, 2022. Ouch.
Over the past few months, I’ve written a lot about how long Grand Theft Auto fans have been waiting for news since GTA 6 was revealed at the end of 2023. While it’s true that a game with a set release window is bound to have more people worried about how long it’s been since we’ve heard anything about it, the 397 days it’s been since the first trailer is rookie numbers compared to other long-lost games.

Sora Losing His Memory In Kingdom Hearts 4 Would Make Perfect Sense
With Nomura revealing that KH4 will act as a ‘story reset’, Sora losing his memory seems like the best way to accommodate new and veteran players.
One great and particularly painful example of this is Kingdom Hearts 4, which was announced nearly three years ago at the series’ 20th anniversary celebrations. Aside from a few little tidbits from Nomura since that first trailer, Square Enix has been completely silent about Sora’s next adventure, and that silence has now reached a new milestone – triple-digits, baby.
Kingdom Hearts 4’s First Trailer Was 1,000 Days Ago
The depressing milestone was pointed out by Kingdom Hearts YouTuber TheGamersJoint, who shared a video reminding us all that it’s now been 1,000 days since Kingdom Hearts 4 was revealed. That’s painful enough, but it gets worse when you remember that the reveal trailer is the only bit of footage we’ve had for Kingdom Hearts 4, which means it’s also been 1,000 days since we’ve seen anything from it.
Kingdom Hearts fans are already well aware of how long we’ve gone without a new trailer or update for the next mainline game, but it’s even more painful now that we’re officially in triple-digit territory. For comparison, there were 735 days between Kingdom Hearts 3’s announcement at E3 2013 and its more concrete re-reveal at E3 2015. Again, ouch.
As painful as the wait for Kingdom Hearts 4 has been and looks to continue to be, it’s not like we’ve learnt nothing new about the game in those 1,000 days. Series creator Tetsuya Nomura has shared a few details during interviews, such as how it’s going to act as a story reset and might even be leading up to Kingdom Hearts as a whole concluding.
