Alefgard is the second main area in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, replacing the main overworld after the Hero defeats the Archfiend Baramos. New players will likely be amazed to discover that Baramos is not actually the Hero’s main foe. Instead of the credits rolling after the fight, they get a new map, filled with a wide range of locations. The main quest in Alefgard plays like a single massive mission or dungeon, with several key tasks you must complete. This guide will provide a complete Alefgard walkthrough for Dragon Quest 3 Remake.

!!!Spoiler Warning – End Game Spoilers Ahead!!!
To complete the Alefgard main quest in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, you must collect three key items. First is the Sunstone, which is found at Tantegel Castle. The second item is the Staff of Rain, which you’ll find at the Shrine of the Spirit. The third item is the Sacred Amulet, which you’ll find at the Tower of Rubiss. We will show you how to get the Sunstone, Staff of Ruin, and Sacred Amulet in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
Before You Visit Alefgard – Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Before you enter Alefgard through the Pit of Giaga, you’ll want to make sure you collect one special item. Once you defeat Baramos, visit the Church of the Dragon Queen and speak to the white dragon inside. You will receive the Sphere of Light. This is not immediately important, but will come in handy at the end of Alefgard, during the game’s final fight.
Once you have DQ3‘s Sphere of Light, you can visit the Pit of Giaga and descend into Alefgard.
How to Get the Sunstone in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Upon arriving in Alefgard, you will find yourself in Western Tantegel. This is a small port area that will act as your introduction to the area. You’ll also collect another ship. Unfortunately, you won’t be able to use Ramia the Everbird in Alefgard.
From Western Tantegel Port, you’ll want to head east to the actual town of Tantegel. You can explore the town, but the quest marker will lead you to the church. Upstairs at the church you’ll encounter the legend himself, Robbin ‘Ood. He will inform you that the Sunstone is being kept in Tantegel Castle.
Inside Tantegel Castle:
Inside the castle, you’ll want to make your way up the stairs on the eastern side of the building. From the eastern treasure room, exit to the north, turn left into the kitchens, then exit to the south. You’ll see the stairs on the right.
In the upstairs chamber, head to the northwestern corner of the room. There you’ll find a chest marked with the exclamation point. Open the chest to retrieve the Sunstone.
The Sunstone is not just an innocuous item. Make sure to add it to a personal inventory, as it can be used to wake multiple team members from sleep.
After Tantegel:
After you collect the Sunstone, your next key item will be found at the Shrine of the Spirit. You don’t have to go there immediately, as you’ll be able to explore several locations and collect a large amount of high-end gear.
You can visit Quagmire Cave, which will allow you to finish the quest for the Auroral Helm (return to Gaia’s Navel to collect the Zenithium).
You can also visit Cantlin, and begin the quest for the Sword of Kings.
How to Get the Staff of Rain in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
To get the Staff of Rain, you’ll simply need to visit the Shrine of the Spirit and speak to the Servant of Rubiss inside. The Shrine of the Spirit is found in southeast Alefgard, along the southern coast. You’ll have to use the ship to reach it. It is directly west of the island that houses the Sanctum, and south of Cantlin.
Once inside the shrine, make your way to the top. There you will encounter the Servant of Rubiss. She reveals herself to be the same disembodied voice you’ve been hearing since the beginning of your journey. She is responsible for the game’s opening Personality Quiz.
There is no great task you’ll have to fulfill here. The Servant of Rubiss will simply hand over the Staff of Rain. Like the Sunstone, the Staff of Rain is a functional item.
She will also inform you that the goddess Rubiss is in dire trouble. She tasks you with collecting the Faerie Flute, which will be required to not only free Rubiss, but claim the final key item in Alefgard, the Sacred Amulet.
How to Get the Sacred Amulet in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
The final item you’ll need to collect is the Sacred Amulet, but before you can do that, you’ll need to get the Faerie Flute from the town of Kol. Once again, you won’t need to do too much here, but it is an important part of the process.
Find the Faerie Flute in Kol:
Kol is located in the northeastern corner of Alefgard, and is hard to miss if you make your way to its general area. Check on your map and look for a white mountain in the northeast of the map. It is there you’ll find Kol.
When you enter the town of Kol, look at the map and locate the pool of water just north of the center of town. These are the town’s hot springs. Head to the center of the southern edge of the hot springs, and walk just a few steps south. You should see the sparkling indicator of an important item buried in the dirt. Interact with the ground to reveal the Faerie Flute. This item will be needed to free Rubiss when the time comes.
Visit the Tower of Rubiss:
Now that you have the Faerie Flute, you’ll want to head west to the Tower of Rubiss. This dungeon tower is found on a chain of islands not far west of Kol. The islands are found along the northern edge, and the tower is near the northern end of the chain. Disembark from your ship and make your way to the tower.
The Tower of Rubiss is a massive structure, and is filled with a decent amount of loot. It is worth exploring in full, as it contains one of the game’s most powerful armor sets, the Auroral Armor. However, for the purposes of this guide, you simply need to reach the top of the Tower of Rubiss.
At the top, you’ll encounter what appears to be a strange statue. As you approach it, you will be confronted by the Soul of Baramos. Once again, the Archfiend returns to halt your progress. You will have to defeat this much harder version of Baramos, along with two Ashdemons that flank him.
Both Baramos and the Ashdemons are weak to Zap-based spells, so use the Hero’s spells to attack them. If you have unlocked Kazap, this is the best attack to use.
Baramos is also weak to Crack-based attacks, so it’s a good idea to bring at least one other spell-caster with you – preferably more.
Once the Soul of Baramos is defeated, you will use the Faerie Flute at the statue, which is revealed to be Rubiss herself. After a brief moment, she will award you with the Sacred Amulet.
How to Use the Rainbow Drop in Dragon Quest 3 Remake
Now that you have all three key items in Alefgard, you’ll need to use them to reach Zoma’s Citadel. The actual dungeon that is the final boss’ lair will be covered in the next guide, but it is the Rainbow Drop that will allow you to reach it.
Follow the quest markers that lead to the area just south of Tantegel. This is where you’ll use the Rainbow Drop to create a bridge that crosses the water and allows you to reach Zoma’s Citadel.
