How to Get and Use Distilled Emotions in PoE 2

Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2 are a reward for completing the Delirium map nodes in the end-game mapping phase, but their purpose is unclear—especially to players who haven’t played the first Path of Exile.

Understanding how to use Distilled Emotions is crucial for fleshing out an end-game build, as the ability to anoint an Amulet—something only Distilled Emotions can do—is a key factor in eking out an edge in the end-game.

There are two possible uses of Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2:

  1. Anointing Amulets with Passive Skills (Notables).
  2. Instilling Waystones with Delirium.

How to Anoint Amulets with Passive Skills Using Distilled Emotions

To add a Notable passive skill to an amulet, you’ll need to know which passive skill you want to anoint, the three Distilled Emotions corresponding to that Notable, and the Amulet itself.

The main benefit of instilling Amulets is that you can add major Notables that are far away from your main build on the passive skill tree. This way, you don’t need to take subpar nodes in order to get a particularly good one that’s out of your way.

To find which Distilled Emotions you need for a specific skill, hover over it in your passive skill tree and press ALT. This will show the exact names and order of the Distilled Emotions you need for that skill. For example, the ‘Tainted Strike’ passive skill requires Ire, Despair, Greed (in that order).

Gather all the required Distilled Emotions and the Amulet in your inventory. Right-click on a Distilled Emotion to open the instilling window, arrange them in order, and place the amulet in the box above them. Below, you should see the description of the skill you want to add. Click ‘Instill’ to complete the process.

Although any Amulet can be instilled with a passive skill, it’s best to wait till you find an Amulet for your end-game build before doing so. Distilled Emotions are not cheap.

Path of Exile 2: Hardest Classes To Master

Path of Exile 2’s early access version has six classes that come with their own strengths and weaknesses. Some PoE2 classes are harder than others.

How to Instill Waystones with Delirium Using Distilled Emotions

Instilling Waystones works exactly like instilling Amulets, but instead of adding passive skills, you add Delirium modifiers to your Waystones in order to make the map nodes harder, resulting in greater rewards.

Waystones instilled will Delirium will not reward players with Distilled Emotions as the Delirium fog in these maps does not dissipate. These maps are meant to farm out Simulacrum Splinter
and rare monsters.

The effects of Distilled Emotions on Waystones are detailed below:

Distilled Emotions

Distilled Despair

Players in area are 20% Delirious 30% increased stack size of Simulacrum Splinters

Distilled Disgust

Players in area are 18% Delirious 30% increased Precursor Tablets found

Distilled Envy

Players in area are 15% Delirious 30% increased Waystones found

The % Delirious stat in PoE 2 dictates the number and power of monsters that will attack you in the Delirium fog. The higher this number, the greater the number of enemies and the bigger the reward.

Only instill Distilled Emotions to your Waystones if you’re confident about not dying in the process.

How to Get Distilled Emotions in Path of Exile 2

There are two main ways of obtaining Distilled Emotions in PoE 2:

  • Completing Delirium Map Nodes in the end-game: Delirium map nodes are denoted by a pure white plus icon (pictured above). In these maps, you’ll find a Delirium mirror, and passing through it will trigger Delirium fog, which will encompass the whole map, spawning white Delirium monsters. Like Breaches, the more Delirium monsters you kill, the longer the Delirium state lasts. When the Delirium state ends, Distilled Emotions will drop where you are standing. The number of these items you obtain depends on how many Delirium monsters you killed and your Item Rarity stat.
  • Using the Currency Exchange: Talk to Alva in the end-game and select “Currency Exchange.” In the ‘I Have’ box, select Exalt Orbs (as it is the universal currency used to trade), and in the ‘I Want’ box, select the Distilled Emotion you want to obtain. The current rate for the Distilled Emotion you’re looking for on the market will immediately become apparent. Put up the required number of Exalted Orbs, and you’ll immediately get it.

While it’s possible to obtain Distilled Emotions on the Path of Exile 2 trading platform, it’s less tedious and more efficient to do so through the currency exchange.
