How Far Would Naruto Make It in Dragon Ball?

How Far Would Naruto Make It in Dragon Ball?

Summary

  • Naruto’s power scaling vs Dragon Ball characters is uncertain due to inconsistencies in both franchises.
  • Naruto would face tough challenges in Dragon Ball, with potential victories up until the Saiyan Saga.
  • Naruto’s maximum theoretical limit in Dragon Ball would be with Beerus in Dragon Ball Super due to power disparities and abilities.

Naruto is one of the strongest beings in his franchise, but how would the seventh Hokage fare in the world of Dragon Ball? Generally speaking, Dragon Ball characters are simply on a different level of power to Naruto characters, but if you take the main man himself, could he do any better than Goku did against his enemies?

People often complain about Dragon Ball power scaling being nonsensical and inconsistent, but Naruto has some of that too. Depending on who you ask, Naruto’s power is anywhere from being able to destroy a mountain range to being a universal threat. Yes, the disparity is that big. Information stated in Naruto Databooks and novels seems to make Naruto stronger than any feats he’s shown in the manga and anime. The inconsistencies from both franchises make it tricky to definitively know who will win in each confrontation, so just know that these battles aren’t set in stone.

To make things clear, here are the rules for Naruto’s theoretical dive into Dragon Ball:

  • Naruto will have access to all his abilities and transformations. So, basically, everything he’s learned plus Baryon mode. To make things more interesting, assume that Baryon mode isn’t a one-time thing that kills Kurama after use.
  • Naruto won’t be following the exact same journey Goku took, meaning he won’t get the training and power-ups Goku does throughout the series. For example, Naruto won’t get to train with Roshi and learn to master the moves Goku learned along the way. Naruto only has the skills he already has from his series. Just think of this as a series of battles rather than Naruto actually influencing the events of Dragon Ball.
  • For the sake of this article, Ki and Chakra will be treated as the same thing. So, characters who can detect Ki will be able to sense Naruto, and any Jutsus that involve affecting the target’s Chakra will work against Dragon Ball characters.

Though these characters can’t stand up to the strength of their companions in Naruto, plenty of them are still memorable.

Naruto in OG Dragon Ball

On the Way to the World Tournaments

Now, admittedly, OG Dragon Ball has some characters with hacks that can technically allow them to dispose of Naruto, such as Monster Carrot’s Magic Touch and Devilman’s Devilmite Beam. But if kid Goku had the agility to dodge Monster Carrot’s touch, then an adult Naruto shouldn’t have a problem with him either. Naruto would also probably be considered pure of heart and be immune to the Devilmite beam. Characters that could reasonably defeat Naruto only start appearing once Goku starts participating in the World Martial Arts Tournaments.

VS Roshi (Jackie Chun)

Dragon Ball - Goku VS Jackie Chun in the 21at World Martial Arts Tournament

The first real threat Naruto would face in the Dragon Ball universe would be Roshi as Jackie Chun during the 21st World Martial Arts Tournament. Roshi already displayed enough power to blow up the moon earlier in the series, so he’s no pushover. However, Roshi has a weakness that all the following opponents don’t have, and that’s his inability to fly. So, Naruto can simply overwhelm him with Shadow Clones and push/drag him out of the ring for a victory.

But if you’re looking for a K.O. victory, it’ll be trickier for the nine-tailed Jinjuriki, but should still be possible. As long as he doesn’t tank a direct hit from a charged Kamehameha, which shouldn’t really happen given his speed in Baryon mode, he should be fine.

VS Tien Shinhan

Tien_Imperfect_Cell_Saga

Naruto’s next major opponent will be Tien Shinhan during the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament. Tien sports some more tactical abilities, like Solar Flare, flight, and his own clone-making technique. Otherwise, though, beating Tien shouldn’t be too much more difficult than Roshi since the two of them were mostly on par during their fight earlier in the tournament. As long as Naruto goes into Baryon mode, his speed and diverse skill set should be able to knock out the triclops.

VS Piccolo

Piccolo charges his Special Beam Cannon to attack Raditz while Goku holds him in place in Dragon Ball Z (1989 - 1996))

For the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament, Naruto squares off against Piccolo Jr., the Demon King Piccolo’s “son”. As the big bad of the OG Dragon Ball series, this would be Naruto’s toughest opponent yet. It’s doubtful that Naruto could actually knock out Piccolo, but maybe he could get a ring-out victory if he overwhelms Piccolo with his shadow clones. A lowballed Naruto would likely lose, but a mid-to-highballed Naruto can clear this battle.

Naruto in Dragon Ball Z

VS Raditz

Raditz

Whether or not you think Naruto can make it past the original Dragon Ball series, most fans would agree that his journey ends somewhere in Dragon Ball Z. But how far he makes it depends on how far you want to scale Naruto. Raditz certainly has the power to destroy Naruto, but he’s also very cocky and weak to his tail being grabbed. If Naruto can figure out Raditz’s weakness, sneak a clone behind him, and grab it, the fight is as good as over. Remember, Raditz can’t sense Ki and only relies on his scouter, which would be pointless when hundreds of clones are attacking from every direction. Naruto should be able to have a clone grab Raditz’s tail eventually and end the fight. Make no mistake though, Raditz has a very real chance of winning this. Raditz’s attack power is unlike anything Naruto’s faced before, and one lucky shot could end it for him.

VS Nappa

Nappa from Dragon Ball Z Cropped

While Nappa’s upper limit was never made truly clear, he definitely wouldn’t have been a planet-buster since, even by Vegeta’s estimations, he needed a full-powered Galick Gun to destroy Earth. That being said, Nappa’s power should still be devastating to Naruto, whose biggest durability feat is tanking an attack that split a hollow moon.

The only feasible way Naruto can win against Nappa is through an intense and drawn-out battle of attrition. If Naruto just keeps on pummeling Nappa with mountain-shattering moves like his assorted Rasengans, Truth-Seeking Orbs, and Tailed Beast Bombs, he could, in theory, wear Nappa down eventually. The biggest threat would be Nappa’s Volcano Explosion move, which is big enough to casually wipe out an entire city off the map. Naruto would have to keep his main body away from the blast radius if he wants to stand a chance.

VS Vegeta

Vegeta showing the middle finger in Dragon Ball Z

The Saiyan prince is where most people would consider Naruto’s journey in Dragon Ball to be over. During the Saiyan Saga, Vegeta claimed that his charged Galick Gun had enough power to destroy the Earth, and even if you believe that to be an exaggeration, it couldn’t have been that big of a bluff because Dragon Ball Z characters at this point should have already scaled to a point close to that if Roshi could blow up the moon in early Dragon Ball. Besides, Vegeta can create an artificial moon to transform into a Great Ape, giving him ten times more power, which would trivialize destroying a planet as big as Earth. Naruto’s only reliable ways of cutting Vegeta’s tail would be the Rasenshuriken or something just as flashy, which would be easily noticeable, allowing Vegeta to dodge it.

Most people’s interpretations of Naruto’s power scale him from continental to just about planetary, so Vegeta in Great Ape form would still be too much for him. Plus, Naruto simply doesn’t have the durability feats to keep him in the game after being hit by a serious attack from Vegeta. Naruto had a good run, and would pretty much be considered the strongest human in the world up to the Saiyan Saga. Once Krillin, Yamcha, and Tien get their training from King Kai though, they will also easily outclass Naruto.

How Far Will Max Highballed Naruto Get?

If You Want to Be Incredibly Generous About Statements

Beerus as seen in Dragon Ball

While most people believe Naruto stops at the Saiyan Saga, there’s a minority of people who think otherwise. In the Boruto novels, which some people claim are non-canon due to them not being written by Kishimoto, there are statements of Fused Momoshiki creating a parallel universe and completely draining it of Chakra, thereby “destroying” it and killing everyone in it. And Naruto, without any transformations, managed to somewhat keep up with Fused Momoshiki. Most people dismiss these claims as mistranslations, but if they were taken as is, how far will Naruto make it in the Dragon Ball universe now?

“He was even draining the chakra from beyond the parallel universe he’d constructed.” – A quote from a Boruto novel that’s hotly debated on whether or not it’s canon and/or mistranslated

If you believe Naruto to have enough power to affect an entire universe, then he gets as far as Dragon Ball Super and gets stopped by Beerus. A Hakai from Beerus would easily erase Naruto, but the Destroyer doesn’t even have to go that far. Beerus could simply destroy the Earth and sit back while Naruto chokes in the vacuum of space.
