DC Heroes Who Need the Batman Arkham Treatment

Rocksteady Studios shouldn’t be done with the Batman Arkham universe after Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, but even if they are, there are still some superheroes in the DC Universe who ultimately deserve the video game treatment that Batman received that propelled his stardom to even greater heights than it already was back with 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum.

While almost every hero from DC and Marvel deserves their own video game, these are some essential DC heroes that deserve games similar to the combat and level design of the Batman Arkham series, and these titans have immense potential.

Terry McGinnis (Batman)

The Batman of Neo-Gotham

• Last Solo Game: Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (November 2000)

While many might expect the likes of Nightwing or Robin to take the mantle of Batman, why not skip to the near future of Neo-Gotham where Terry McGinnis takes the cowl and makes it his own? Batman Beyond is from a cyberpunk future, where a new version of Gotham, more vibrant and futuristic, can take the reigns.

New and old villains could be extremely exciting, and it would be the perfect opportunity for Rocksteady to reinvent their formula with future technology while still building on their legacy with Kevin Conroy’s Batman.

Static

Electromagnetic Powers in the Hands of a Teen

Static is a beloved superhero, relatable due to his position as a young and hopeful hero who uses his powers for good. Static’s electromagnetic powers have been seen in games before with the likes of Sucker Punch Productions’ inFAMOUS series, and that’s the perfect inspiration for Static, except maybe without the need to go evil and murderous for some wicked red lightning abilities.

Static’s power set works wonderfully in video game form, and being such a young hero would make for a fun time for all, as well as a powerful one where Static learns to use his powers and grow them to become the protector of Dakota City.

Aquaman

The King of Atlantis Who Protects the Seven Seas

• Last Solo Game: Aquaman: Battle for Atlantis (July, 2003)

Why have a game feature in a city when it can be an entire kingdom, or the Seven Seas themselves? Aquaman is the King of Atlantis, and armed with his incredible strength and trident, his combat against the likes of Black Manta mercenaries and Ocean Master goons could be incredibly exciting, especially if there’s a way to bring sharks and other sea creatures into the battle.

Swimming at vast speeds and exploring the depths of underwater and creative worlds beneath the surface could be extremely exciting and beautiful to witness, and Aquaman is deserving of a game to call his own considering his spotlight has diminished after Jason Momoa’s retirement from the character.

The Flash

The Scarlet Speedster Who Could Bring Intense Speeds to New Hardware

• Last Solo Game: The Flash (September 1993)

The Flash has a vastly unique playstyle thanks to his set of powers, which sees him tap into the Speed Force to be the Fastest Man Alive. The Flash has incredible speeds that would make gameplay rather difficult, and extremely different from what fans expect from an Arkham game. However, there could be some creative ways around it, like the Flash going easy on his foes like Spider-Man does in his own games.

Part of the true excitement of a game featuring The Flash is the experience of reaching such intense speeds that make the gameplay so exciting. When it comes to racing games and even open-world games with cars like Grand Theft Auto, the thrills of high speeds are part of the joy, and The Flash could really use that speed – but with his feet.

Green Arrow

The Emerald Archer Who Protects Star City

Taking a leave from Gotham, players could experience an entirely new set of lore with different villains and allies if they take to Star City and put on the hood and domino mask of the Green Arrow. Considering Rocksteady has experience with shooting mechanics thanks to Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, seeing an archer at work could be an interesting change of pace from previous combat iterations.

Green Arrow would make for an interesting variation on the Arkham formula, especially when one considers his limited powers, where like Batman, he is a rich vigilante who just wants to protect his city – except this protector has a bow to shoot all sorts of gadgets that could add to a fun gameplay loop.

Green Lantern

Intergalactic Police Corps With Boundless Creativity

• Last Solo Game: Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (June 2011)

The Green Lanterns thrive on willpower and the creativity from their minds to form powerful constructs to help their Sectors across the universe be at peace. Essentially, the Green Lanterns are peacekeepers and police officers who roam space and planets, making for the perfect sci-fi experience for players to enjoy the intergalactic DC worlds that some fans might not know about.

Battling Sinestro Corps or other Lantern Corps, criminals, and Manhunters, could be an incredible time, and imagine if a Green Lantern game had co-op, so players could run around as Hal Jordan, John Stewart, Guy Gardner, and a mixture of iconic Lanterns that could make roaming space so much fun.

Wonder Woman

The Greatest Female Superhero Who Has Tropical Worlds to Explore

• Last Solo Game:Wonder Woman (TBC)

While Wonder Woman may or may not be getting a game from Monolith Studios, the developers behind the Middle-earth: Shadow series, it’s still worth admitting that nobody knows anything about the game despite its announcement years ago, so it’s worth reinforcing the idea that Wonder Woman undoubtedly deserves a video game of her own, especially with that amazing Nemesis system.

Whether it takes root in games like Tomb Raider with exploration aspects of tropical islands like Themyscira, or it becomes a freeing open world where Wonder Woman can battle hunters and monsters, there is immense potential for this warrior princess to fight with sword, shield, and lasso across the world.

DC’s Greatest Superhero Needs a Video Game Metropolis

Could there be any doubt about Superman needing a video game? He’s not just the ultimate DC hero, but the ultimate superhero, the one who inspires all. Superman hasn’t had a successful stint with video games, and many might remember the infamous Superman 64, but it’s about time people save space for a new Superman on modern hardware, where everything is possible.

Superman is ultimately deserving of a game, in his own open-world Metropolis where players can finally enjoy the speed and flight of this ultimate powerhouse, fighting against some ultimate villains. The power of Superman’s fists can be felt in each punch, and there are certainly some creative ways to make him not feel so overpowered, or have him turn people into red paste when he lands on them.
