Summary
- Black Ops 6 players worried Front Man skin is pay-to-win like Modern Warfare’s Roze skin.
- Roze skin backlash led Infinity Ward to adjust the brightness; concerns arise again in Black Ops 6.
- Community divided over new skin; some fear pay-to-win, while others find visibility acceptable.
Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 players are concerned that the new Front Man operator skin, which can be obtained via the Squid Game Event Pass, could be considered pay-to-win due to its dark design. The Call of Duty community has previously experienced issues with Modern Warfare‘s Roze skin, which Infinity Ward was forced to adjust due to backlash, but now Black Ops 6 players may be about to experience a very similar problem with the latest skin to join the game.
Back in the days of 2019’s Modern Warfare, the Rook skin for Roze caused massive outrage among Call of Duty players due to the operator’s fully blacked-out attire. While Black Ops 6 is a much more vibrant game, the rebooted Modern Warfare series opted for a much darker tone, which meant skins of this nature were almost impossible to see in certain lighting. With the skin quickly becoming the meta due to it practically making players invisible, Infinity Ward was forced to increase the brightness of the outfit multiple times until it could be easily seen in all types of lighting. Now, however, Black Ops 6 fans are concerned that they’re about to experience something similar.

Call of Duty Players Express Concern Over New Black Ops 6 Skin
The Front Man operator skin in Black Ops 6 was released on January 3 along with the new Squid Game collaboration event. While the skin isn’t purchasable via the in-game store, it can be obtained via the controversial Event Pass, which works similarly to the seasonal Battle Pass. While there are plenty of players still working their way through the pass to obtain the skin, some are taking to social media to express their concerns that the blacked-out outfit could be another “pay-to-win” scenario, similar to the days of Roze’s Rook skin in Modern Warfare.
Call of Duty‘s new Squid Game skin appears to have divided the community, with some sharing the concern that the Front Man is going to become another Roze incident, while others believe Black Ops 6‘s lighting means this is a non-issue. While there are plenty of Reddit posts appearing on the Black Ops 6 subreddit calling the Front Man a “new sweat skin,” Reddit user Zero-Order-93 said that they have “already seen [the skin] in the game” and noted that it has “standard visibility.” JayFranMar also agrees, noting that the lighting has been “changed up” since the days of the Modern Warfare series, so these types of skins are a lot more visible.
While the skin doesn’t appear to be causing mass controversy just yet, Call of Duty‘s Squid Game collaboration has already outraged the community. Prior to the event’s release, a leaked message of the day revealed that there would be a premium Event Pass added with the new Squid Game collaboration, allowing users to purchase the pass and work their way through it to earn exclusive rewards. The pass works similarly to the seasonal Battle Pass, but fans were quick to blast Activision as “greedy” for adding another paid pass on top of the existing Battle Pass and Blackcell edition, which was also incredibly controversial in itself when it was first released.
