Big Mom’s Massive Elbaf Role, Explained 

Big Mom is one of the most important characters in One Piece, and someone that fans absolutely relished as a villain in the post-time skip of the series. Even though Big Mom turned out to be the secondary antagonist of the Wano Country Arc, she was still absolutely phenomenal to watch. It is a shame that Big Mom was not dealt with properly by Oda and essentially rushed off the screen simply because he wanted to put more focus on Kaido, due to Wano being his arc.

While that truly is unfortunate, fans know that there is a chance for Big Mom to return, potentially in the Elbaf Arc, and make things far more exciting, both for her own storyline and for Elbaf as a whole.

The Fate Of Big Mom After Wano

The Wano Country arc was massive for Big Mom. It is here that her entire empire ended up collapsing upon itself, due to her losing a battle to the Worst Generation. Big Mom followed Luffy to Elbaf to exact revenge on him. But, she did not even get the chance to engage in proper combat with him. By teaming up with Kaido, Big Mom essentially took on the Samurai Ninja Mink Pirate Alliance, and lost the battle. On the rooftop of Onigashima, Big Mom and Kaido fought the Worst Generation, and it is safe to say that this battle lived up to all expectations and far surpassed them. It is here that Oda decided to split apart the Emperors, with Kid and Law taking care of Big Mom, and Luffy being left to deal with kaido.

It is safe to say that Big Mom vs Kid and Law was an exciting fight for the fans to see. While Big Mom was severely nerfed in this battle, and the entire fight was rushed in many ways, the takeaway here was that Big Mom was eventually dealt with. Kid and Law combined to throw Big Mom off Onigashima and have her full into an underground volcano. Big Mom was later met by Kaido here after he was defeated by Luffy, and this eventually caused a cataclysm, where the entire volcano ended up erupting and shooting them into the skies. Ever since then, the fates of these two individuals remain unknown. Fans don’t know if Big Mom is dead or alive, but there have certainly been hints in the story about her fate.

Pudding firmly believes that Big Mom is alive, and Oda has not explicitly stated her to be dead either. Clearly, the idea is that Big Mom has survived this explosion, and that she can potentially go on to make a return sooner rather than later.

How Big Mom Can Be Incorporated In Elbaf

Big Mom Has Ties That Run Deep In Elbaf

The Elbaf Arc is connected deeply to the character of Big Mom, which is why this would be the perfect time for Oda to reintroduce her into the story. For one, Big Mom is the character through which Oda introduced Elbaf to the fans. While this country was mentioned long ago in the pre-timeskip, Big Mom gave fans their first glimpse of it, because she was abandoned in the country by her parents. The Elbaf Village that is currently being explored by the Straw Hat Pirates was also revealed to the fans by Big Mom through her own flashback. Big Mom’s ties with the land of the Giants run deep. She was raised here for quite a significant period of her life, and later down the line, she was incredibly close to forming an alliance with this country by having Lola marry Loki.

Of course, the Giants and Big Mom never got to see eye to eye due to many reasons, but, this arc could be the perfect time for them to settle their differences. Perhaps, Big Mom is going to return in this arc, and Oda has two ways in front of himself.

A Direct Return

One way for Oda to reincorporate Big Mom into the Elbaf Arc of One Piece is to see her return directly. It could be revealed at any point that Big Mom is not truly dead and was rescued by the remaining members of the Big Mom Pirates. These Pirates could then have headed back home to Totland, and the pirate crew could have started regrouping. After having been stripped of the Emperor title, Big Mom could be making interesting moves, and potentially showing up on Elbaf, which is where Luffy is. Of course, fans would expect a battle between Luffy and Big Mom on Elbaf then, but, in a shocking turn of events, Oda could go on to reveal Big Mom to be an ally.

It is possible that Big Mom’s entire character arc, which includes the death of Mother Carmel and the entire mystery surrounding it, along with much else, is going to be revealed there. Given that Vegapunk is on Elbaf as well, Big Mom’s entire illness surrounding the hunger pangs could be treated as well, which could then allow her to carry out the rest of her days peacefully, attempting to live out her dream of a utopia and possibly even opening her own Orphanage like Carmel. This would be an interesting way for Oda to conclude the character arc of Big Mom.

Big Mom’s Backstory

Another interesting way for Oda to reincorporate Big Mom into the story here would be to not have her return to Elbaf, but simply reveal interesting bits of information pertaining to her life through other characters. It is possible that Jarul, one of the Giants Heroes who is currently 408 years old and the oldest man in the world, will go on to narrate certain events pertaining to Big Mom. As to why he would do that, the answer could simply connect to the history of Elbaf in one way or another. Fans could also see the members of the Big Mom Pirates on the move, likely led by Katakuri, perhaps seeking an alliance with the Straw Hat Pirates in an attempt to defend Totland better, in the event that Big Mom truly is dead. This would also be a very interesting way to tie in the Big Mom into the story once again without having her actually appear in the arc.

Should Oda Make Big Mom Return Again?

Big Mom Has More To Offer And Should Make A Return

Whether Big Mom will return or not is entirely dependent on Oda. One thing the fans need to keep in mind is that Big Mom was never truly evil, and at the end of the day, was a very complex character. Her personality was very childish, and in many ways, similar to that of Luffy. Fans know that Big Mom possesses a kinder side as well, and this could potentially play into Oda having her return later down the line and aligning with none other than Luffy himself. But, the decision rests with the author, and no matter which way he takes the story, fans hope that he will end up doing justice to Big Mom’s character arc, as well as the remainder of the Big Mom Pirates as well.
